Sparkle Introduces 2GB, Single-GPU Graphics Card
Taiwanese VGA card manufacturer Sparkle has introduced what it claims is the world’s most powerful single-GPU graphics card. According to Sparkle, its GeForce GTX 285 is the only single-GPU graphics card to feature up to 2GB GDDR3 memory. However, on closer inspection of its claim, we found another company with a similar offering.
Palit Microsystems began offering a custom-built GTX 285 with 2GB memory in February. From the face of it, Sparkle’s entire staff was probably marooned on a remote island – or away on an intergalactic excursion, and therefore had no idea what was going around.
The GTX 285 runs at a core clock frequency of 648MHz. Sparkle has also promised its card will deliver “30% faster performance than competing single GPU graphic card solutions.” But the company is mum on pricing.

Throwing an additional gig of DDR3 at a 1gig video card will not make it the fastest video card in the world. However, if they were to build the GTX285 with 2gigs of DDR5 at 512bit bus and high speeds then that would be a video card I would want in my rig.

Actually, there's also a 4870 with 2 GB of memory:

Hence why i'm not building yet. I'm going to get small time parts, like Keyboard, monitors, Mouse, Case, cathodes, power supply, dvd drive, sound card, network card(maybe), and whatever else i come across that doesn't rely on Motherboard, CPU and GPU. (Also whatever ones are proven to work with linux out of the box, with little or no hassle)
I don't like Microsoft, I associate with it.

Putting 2gb of memory on a GDDR3 interface is just stupid. If nVidia wanted a truly powerful card, they should have made a GDDR5 version of this.

ATI's 2GB 4870x2, which I assume is what you're referring to (and which I own) does have 2 gigs of memory, but that's really only 1 gig accessible to each core, mirrored.

It means that its 2 graphics cards slapped together. 1Gb + 1Gb does not equal 2Gb when they are 2 cards slapped together. What it does, is mirror the data on the First card to the Second card thus, making it so that both cards have the same data
