Sorry Google, Hulu is No Longer for Sale
Hulu is officially off the auction block, which means Google is going to have to be content with YouTube, Apple will have to find another way to boost its Apple TV platform, and Yahoo, Microsoft, Amazon, Dish Network, and all the rest who were interested no longer need to concern themselves with what was gearing up to be an epic bidding war. For whatever reason, Hulu simply had a change of heart.
Hulu made the announcement in a short, joint statement posted to its website from owners News Corporation, Providence Equity Partners, and The Walt Disney Company, and the Hulu senior management team.
"Since Hulu holds a unique and compelling strategic value to each of its owners, we have terminated the sale process and look forward to working together to continue mapping out its path to even greater success. Our focus now rests solely on ensuring that our efforts as owners contribute in a meaningful way to the exciting future that lies ahead for Hulu," the statement reads.
And that's all Hulu wrote. The streaming service first entertained the idea of a sale when it was approached by Yahoo back in June. Other tech giants quickly made their interests known, but it was reported most wanted longer terms attached to video content, terms big media companies weren't willing to agree with.

Personally I tried both Hulu Plus and Netflix for a few months and Netflix won out. It is true that Hulu Plus has a wider selection of new episodes but I can record any new shows I will miss with Windows Media Center and watch them later. This gives me the option to FF past the annoying commercials. Didn't have that choice with Hulu. Furthermore the new shows have limited run times on Hulu so if I don't get aroung to watching fast enough they go away. Netflix is commercial free and I can watch a lot of older shows not available on Hulu.
When it's all said and done both services have their strengths and weaknesses. It's a matter of personal preference.

That is fine by me... More people use YouTube than they use Hulu anyways. Still, would have loved to see Hulu get shut down by the competition.

thanks, troll, er, Holly Golightly. It's clear that you either don't have a job or you work for Netflix for their PR department.

Take it up like a man. If you do not like it, there are other sites that I may not be on.

Would you please find another hobby? You post on just about every article one this site and it's always half-baked conjecture. I'm not going to bother to ask why you would want Hulu shutdown as I'm sure the response would be incomprehensible.

Yes, my responses are always too good for you to comprehend now, isn't it? Hulu is not on YOUR side. They are on your cable provider's side. That is why they force cable tv show timings before every video you watch. Ever thought about that? Gosh, all I want is an Ad-Free experience!

Then give 1 million dollars to the company, so they can afford the content. Money doesnt grow on trees, and those ad's pay for the new episodes. Thats why I switch from Netfliix to HULU. All the shows my Girlfriend and I watch Hulu always has the new episodes the next day. Yes I do have dish, but I don;t watch it becuase there are too many commercials and I have to watch the show at the time it is on (no DVR). Just sucks that the contract ends on January just a few months left.
Yes Hulu charges $8 a month, so does Netflix and yet Hulu has newer episodes and shows. Thats becuase it can aford it with the money from the ads and subscription. But hey Hulu works for some people and not for others. You dont want ADS, then use Netflix they don't have advertisement.

Yes, Netflix > Hulu no doubt. Pay money AND watch commercials? You are out of your damn mind! It is like cable tv of the 1990s. It pathetic. We have to move forward, not backwards. What Hulu is doing is clinging on to the past. Did you know you need to log in your Cable/Satellite TV accounts to Hulu to watch some of the premiere video content? The play double the commercials they used to, and they show tv show times of certain channels. I do not believe in supporting the enemy. You are either for a digital future, or an analog box past. I am going all the way for the future. Netflix, YouTube, Crystal TV, and Amazon Video Prime is the way to go.

MMM Ill take a look of that, but as long as my shows work well with minor commercials am good (better than the tv experience). I just watch some anime. What I like about hulu is that they have the new episodes for; naruto, blue exorcist, and now I been watching the new show Terra Nova.
To tell you the truth my GF and I are a bit dissapointed right now. They took off some episodes of desperate housewives season 7 and are playing a few of season 8. And also am a bit mad that the new episode of psych can only be play by web not my 360 =(. I wish hulu would also bring the new season of Dexter.

The problem is, for now there will not be any reliable sites to watch the newest content of your favorite shows. Yes, Hulu is close, but they are starting to change for the worst. Sadly enough, even first party websites like Cartoon Network and AdultSwim now require cable accounts to watch their episodes as well. What the TV industry is undergoing (sadly) is marketing myopia. People are willing to pay for TV, but do not like the cable experience. They should open their eyes and observe how people are paying for Hulu and Netflix at much more affordable prices, with less or even no commercials at all. This is a market the cable industries can compete with directly by simply opening up their platform. Watch cable tv anywhere you feel like. Less commercials or pratically none. A better viewing experience is what people are willing to pay for. Since Hulu is owned by Disney, of course they are going to side with the big cable providers. We will never be able to watch our favorite shows the same day they are released on TV. Cable is not going down without a fight. So this is why I have such a strong opinion against them.
