SOPA Bill Gets Shelved Due to a Lack of "Consensus"
Big media isn’t used to losing a fight, but then again this is the Internet we are talking about here. The much despised SOPA censorship bill introduced by Judiciary Chairman Lamar Smith seems to have completely stalled, which according to The Hill is due to a lack of consensus. If you are one of the countless thousands who called your local officials to lodge complaints, sent old fashioned mail, or even just complained in online forums give yourself a pat on the back, somebody heard you.
Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa was promised by Majority Leader Eric Cantor that the house won’t hold a vote unless a consensus on the bill is reached, which at this point is looking all but impossible. According to Issa, “While I remain concerned about Senate action on the Protect IP Act, I am confident that flawed legislation will not be taken up by this House. Majority Leader Cantor has assured me that we will continue to work to address outstanding concerns and work to build consensus prior to any anti-piracy legislation coming before the House for a vote”.
Today is a great day for the open Internet, but don’t let your guard down just yet. The PROTECT IP and ACTA looks every bit as horrible as SOPA, and is still being pushed hard by lobbyists.

Well, I hate to break it to you guys, but Obama said he would veto the NDAA (you know, that little freedom destroying bill that essentially classifies all American citizens as terrorists), and then signed it anyway. This is just a bait-and-switch, and we need to continue fighting this - there are still PIPA and ACTA... note no one has claimed either of those bills are on hold.

I hate to sound like a pessimist, but the American people will get screwed by these douchebags. We always do....

Excellent. Great news and a proud day for the interwebz.
We all need to remember the effort here though, because this kind of crap will pop up again with a different name. When it does, we need to email our little fingers off and scream at the top of our lungs, just like we did here.
Stay vigilant people!!!

This was no victory. This bill was litterly just hours away from a vote multiple times despite public outcries from all corners. In fact, the only reason it wasn't voted on back in December without so much as one internet technician testifying about its effects was because the congress persons (if you can call them people) were tired after all their other partisan bickering sessions and not getting anything done vis'a'vis the debt super-comittee and the fiscal year budget, and they decided to go home for a long winter's nap.
In otherwords, the internet and freedom of speech didn't win, lazyness did.

We may have lost our rights to the Patriot Act and N.D.A.A., but god bless us that we at least care enough to fight for the Interwebs.

I am with you there.
As much as I enjoy the free and open nature of the internet, the bigger concern is to our phisical person, and what the government can do to us, without cause.
Very bothersome.....
Just keep buying guns, ammo, and food. *Tin foil hat is on, and working at maximum power* :-)

PRAISE! May the good people of the internet always win in their mob-esque justice! Just as the media companies must lose in mob-esque defeat. Anyone sensing a pattern here? Isn't this why we have an Electoral College?

Good.
But if a similar bill that was good, that wouldn't result in an Orwellian apocolyspe was passing through Congress, people would still oppose it just as much so they could continue pirating unmolested.

In other words, they want to wait until people forget about it and then try passing it again.
Nice try, but, no dice.

Good work troops. The beast is not dead yet, though. SOPA is injured, but we still need to cut off its head.... and then shoot it in the knee with an arrow.

One battle down, one more to go. Hopefully PIPA will go the same way as SOPA.

Easy enough to do. You just have to have a spare old computer, a static IP and be able to pass tcp and udp traffic on port 53. You also need someone to run a slave server for you. Go with linux and bind.
