Soon You'll be Able to Use Multiple Mouse Pointers in Windows
It’s all the rage these days to have multitouch technology baked into software. Now Microsoft is letting us know that having multiple pointers could be cool too with the new MultiPoint SDK. The new v1.5 release is available for download and will allow developers to create applications that use multiple mice simultaneously. The SDK could allow groups to work collaboratively on a single PC.
Having a single computer interpret commands from multiple pointers could be a boon to education, says Microsoft. Many schools have fewer computers than students, and sharing PCs doesn’t always work because only one person is really able to interact with it at a time. In the recent demo on MSDN’s Channel9, some beta applications were shown off using three pointers.
While Redmond seems to be pushing education as the big sell, there could be other uses. There are times when a single computer with two independent mice could work just as well as two computers. The SDK is compatible with Windows 7 and Server 2008. Make sure to check out the video demo. If you’re the developer type, the SDK can be found here.

From an educational aspect this could very well be usable. With multiple monitor support, such as ati's display with 6 screens, why not pair up a mouse with each screen and put a child in front of it. Instead of trying to pair one computer with one child, you can possibly pair one computer with up to 6 children. Might take a multi-tasking computer to a new place while giving each child access in a cost effective way.

This could make split screen pc gaming a possiblilty. Which is good, because that is about the only thing that is keeping me from switching over to PC gaming for good

If you've got a large enough monitor, just make this capable of running keyboards and you can have split-screen gaming. :)
Considering the hardware you can pack into a small PC nowadays, you can kick the crap out of the 360 on hardware EASY. Multi-pointer/keyboards could mean the end of any advantages the consoles have. :)
Wait.....they're both MS products! >_<

or set up one pc for a entire family....or office...
instead of spending 600-1000 per users spend 2k on one system for everyone...
Makes managing them pretty easy and cleaning out viri and upgrading. Think about it no more spending a weekend doing windows update/scan on 3 boxes, or installing the same game on 3 boxes...
