Sony's Newest PS3 Slim Models FCC Approved, Specs a Mystery
In retrospect, 2009 was really the year of the PS3. Sales of the oft maligned console finally began picking up after price drops and the introduction of the PS3 Slim. The continued ascendancy of Blu-Ray certainly didn’t hurt either. Even with all the focus on Sony’s console, they thought they could sneak some new versions through the FCC without anyone knowing. Not so much.
The two new versions are identified by their model numbers: CECH-2101A and CECH-2101B. The current PS3 Slims have model numbers CECH-2001A and B, denoting the 120GB and 250GB versions. So we can be fairly certain that these new models are differentiated by their hard drive size, but what’s changed from the current gen?
The wireless components tested by the FCC seem to be the same. It is possible, though depressing, that Sony may have just tweaked the manufacturing process to save money and slapped a new model number on them. But maybe… just maybe there’s some secret Sony magic under the hood of these new models. We can only hope. What do you think?

A wireless N card would be nice as well as support for NTFS drives.

I agree with you there. But wireless N only for streaming media. For downloading of games/apps/updates or online gaming, Wireless G is more than enough. Unless you have fiber internet where you have 100Mb up and down.. But if that's the case, you can afford to hardwire your PS3 to a gigabit router.

A die shrink. They would shrink either the cell or the gpu, and may lower costs for sony(?). In any case, die shrinks are always good news, as reduced heat and power never hurt in something which can't be modified.

To bad they need to release a game that I will buy for it first. So far all thier "PS3 only" title sucks (own Wii,Xbox360 already). For a blu ray player its not worth it, as thanks to samsung great superbowl TV deal, buy a tv get a bluray for free, so no neeed. Till the game maker make a game worth it I'll stick to my comp.
Core i7 975 extreme (4Ghz), 12 GB (tri), 8TB of stuff, Two 5970, on Intel X58 w/USB3.
Thanks "Frys" for all ur great deal. Bought the extreme for $600 during a christmas special.

"So far all thier [sic] "PS3 only" title suck"
BS. Metal Gear Solid 4 and Uncharted 2 are among the best games ever released for any console.

I'd probably be dreaming if I thought they'd actually put an IR adapter in the PS3, but it would be nice. I probably wouldn't upgrade my current ps3 for that feature, but I'd be tempted since I love my Logitech Harmony remote.

You can get an adapter that lets you use your harmony remote w/your PS3. It's from Logitech as well. I forget what it's called though...
