Sony products break after 5 years. I swear they have a chip that purposely break any of their devices after that time.

I've sworn off everything Sony for about 7 years now and will continue to do so.

In addition to their crap quality they are also guilty of, proprietary connections/devices and corporate greed by nickel and diming the consumer to death.

What you just said about Sony could be said of.any company. Besides, you must have just had bad luck or don't properly use your devises because mine has almost always outlived its usefullness.

The Addictor

I've been a die-hard PS user since PS1, and when the PS3 came out, there was potential abound that EVERYONE saw, and still sees. But those behind the driving wheel of the software chose to ignore MANY of the systems lacking features, and still kept touting it as a system that did everything. The internet browser on the system sucks, and after 5 years, finally updating the browser, guess what? It still sucks. It has so much potential! Why can't I still view HD through the browser? Why does the lowest resolution of any video hiccup like a drunk after a hardnight of liver killing? Why monetize features that should be a given and gave for free on other platforms? (ie: Auto-update, cloud save storage, full game 60 minute demos, etc.)
Of course, now, there's also trust issues. When Sony got hacked, on more than a couple occasions, they didn't tell us right away, they waited. The they released Faulty Firmware (2.3 or 2.5? 3.5, and 4.00 <- Which killed my system and 3 other friends!! Still no word!) , they didn't tell us right away, they waited, or still haven't opened their mouths.
The XBOX 360 has undergone so many friggin changes and upgrades to their system, even with it's limited hardware capacities, it's embarrassing to me as a PS3 user, who has stood by Sony for so long, thinking things will get better.
The main point of this is, is that Sony has an extremely difficult time listening to it's users or fanbase. It dosen't like to listen to its customers, who are giving them money to use their machines, to make additional purchases after they buy it. It's cutting key features, and refusing to implement ones that would make a difference in the market out there.
I've got a lot more to say, but I'll stop right here. I still love Sony. But in order to make this marriage work, Sony has to give, and quit taking. I need to feel the love too, which I don't, and haven't for some time. I'm up for some counciling, and willing to reconcile, but Sony really needs to open up, listen, and give feedback in order for this to work.

I think the biggest problems with the ps3 was the fact that it only had 256 megs and the gpu didn't use a unified gpu. The ram being the biggest problem will make almost any web browsing experience suck. Sony has been making one bad decision after another but one thing I will say that sony did right was make a console that lasts. My ps3 that I got on launch still works. after 4 xbox 360s that is a big plus. PCs are the only way to go anymore if you want a good experience.

I know I haven't bought anything from sony since the might sony corp sued a 15 year old child for downloading songs. I guess they do have the profits from that action to keep them warm at night.

Sony used to stand for quality and value. Then Sony stood for quality even if you had to pay a bit more. I can honestly say that I still look at Sony products, but consistently for the last several years have found that the quality has not really been there. They are being outperformed by competitors in both quality and value. It appears to me now that buying Sony is paying just for the name and bloated executives who do not care about their customers, but only their pocket books. I hope they can turn it around but don’t really see myself buying any of their products in the future.

pity their entertainment division has run their name to the ground, through mud and into a latrine. Their electronics division is solid as always, but the name 'Sony' is tarnished now.

The problem is not with Sony products but with their corporate culture. It used to be tech savvy people bought their goods based on quality and design, but now we have a "war" against the consumer such as hidden root kits, take it or leave it 'gotcha' update terms of service, shoddy customer data security & indifference, end user litigation and big backers of SOPA & ACTA.

We live in a connected, aware social space that did not exist even a decade ago. Companies must learn to thrive in this space if they want to thrive in the marketplace.

Don't piss of the Internets :D

When will they learn that locking our their hardware and treating their customers like criminals won't improve revenues... Tisk, tisk Sony. We won't miss you.

avatar

kixofmyg0t

Yeah when will Sony learn that being by far the largest contributor to AOSP and letting all their phones come with unlockable bootloaders is never good business. Or operating a completely free to use network for users to play online .....

Oh wait you were talking about the most secure console with the lowest piracy rate of any console past or present which when released cost more to manufacture than what it sold for.

Go away troll.

Nice comment but I got one word for ya dipstick "CINAVIA"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Google it and research it then get back to me about how altruistic Sony is.

Um, hey genius? Every console, besides the Wii perhaps, has been sold initially at a loss, all the way back to the 2600. The makers learned they could make more through licensing and software sales than from the consoles themselves, and the market changed to that model.

And being so tightly locked down hasn't prevented the PS3 from getting it's hat handed to it by the "inferior" 360, has it?

avatar

The ps3 did have a rough start but it isn't getting its ass handed to it by the 360, the problem was initially because it took Sony longer than expected to release blueray but waiting paid off and its now the international norm for hd media. Sony having a complicated cpu to develop for also didn't help its cause but if today you look at software sales you'll see that Sony is selling more than the 360 but it still is slightly behind because of the initial launch.
The numbers are by the way 628mil software sold for 360 and 540mil for ps3, the wii has about 740million sold but they are losing ground and right now Sony has the best momentum.

Yeah look how it turned out for apple, which hardware are you talking about exactly?

I find it amazing that Sony and Samsung have swapped places. When I was younger, Sony was top-notch stuff and Samsung was hammered crap.

I recently gave away a Sony 53" rear-projection TV I bought in 1997. It was in perfect working order, but it was SD and monstrously large. I had hauled that thing all over the country during the multiple moves that are common for young adults. In U-Hauls on bumpy back roads, up and down stairs... hell, it even got rained on in the back of a pick-up truck one time. It never missed a beat or gave me a single problem.

Dunno what Sony's malfunction is now, but they apparently need to clean house in the c-suites and start fresh.

Part of of the problem is bad rep that was brought on from nothing. All the Sony hate is missguided and for some reason ever since the early ps3 release I've had different kids calling me a "fanboy" when ever I mentioned anything positive about Sony. I'm a unbiased person by nature and if Sony would make a bad product i would be the first to tell people to stay away from it but it isn't usually the case. They usually price their things very well I find, look at the Sony home amps, they are far from being the best but if you're looking for a mid range they are the best bang for the buck. Where Sony is sneaky is that they rather advertise that their amp can pump 110watts at 1% thd rather than 90watts at 0.1% thd.

avatar

limitbreaker

That's too bad, I really hope they recover from this and come back stronger otherwise ill have to rely on cheap Korean stuff. I've never been dispointed in any Sony products I've bought and they usually have always lasted longer than I needed them. My phat ps3 is still pumping F@H (its the 65nm version) and my old car is still rocking 2 Sony 800watt amps and 12inchers everyone said will "explode".

My 90nm launch day 60GB(now a 500GB) is still running strong.
