I love the memory stick. My cameras have always been faster (yes I realize that there are many other factors) to load pictures than any canon or nikon my friends have had. But it really bothers me that they still use these. Something cannot be truly superior if no other product supports it.
I don't know what bothers me more, the lack of SD slot on my sony camera or the lack of memory stick slot on my netbook.

I will "NOT" buy any electrionic gadget that takes proprietary memory such as sony memory stick you have to pay twice as much for.

I'm sorry, but does any consumer give a frak if Sony produces a line of storage media that is incompatible with Sony products?
I seriously considered NOT getting a Walkman for my new phone two years ago exclusively because of MemoryStick. But I loved the phone. And it only cost me a penny. So I bought a four-gig stick with the difference, and I'm OK with that. I still love my Walkman.
But I wouldn't have blinked if the phone supported SD. I'm scratching my head that they still don't support SD today, but they're gonna build it. It's like a building contractor that sez, "We only build the walls. Nobody can build the roof, so you'll get a little wet when it rains..."

I have always wondered if Sony realizes how many consumers don't buy Sony because of the memory stick issue. I have made several high dollar consumer electronics buys over the past year or two and NONE of them have been Sony. It's not because Sony doesn't make good products because they do, it's because of the memory stick. I probably have a dozen SD cards at home in various capacities so the odds of me buying a product that requires I drop more coin on infrastructure (which is often more pricey) is zero, especially when there are other equally good competing products out there to buy. It's the same with anything Apple. Why should I buy a product that is purposely designed to limit how I can use it? When are manufacturers going to learn that proprietary heavy products scare off many prospective consumers!
