Sony Announces PS Move Precise Enough to Play StarCraft
While addressing a bunch of gaming geeks at this years Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco, PlayStation researcher Anton Mikahilov made some pretty big claims about Sony's upcoming PlayStation Move motion controller.
Much of the demonstration revolved around the controller's level of precision. According to Mikahilov, the PlayStation Eye can track the Move's movements down to about one millimeter in the X and Y planes. To prove he wasn't blowing smoke up everyone's tailpipes, he zoomed down to the pixel level.
On the Z plane, the Move's level of precision is about one centimeter, and as Mikahilov twisted the controller, he noted that the PlayStation Eye could detect rotation to the degree level.
So what does it all mean? Translated in manner we can better identify with, Mikahilov says they've been able to use the motion controller to control the PC version of StarCraft.

Anyone bitching about using this with an RTS, if it was very
accurate it just may be quicker than mouse/keyboard at certain things. I
doubt it, but until you try it you never know. To anyone that thinks
that mouse/keyboard is the only way to go, watch microsoft demoing their
"surface" touch screen by playing ruse, then tell me that
keyboard/mouse is the only option for RTS.

MPC I am going to state this like the typical person on the internet that flips out when they don't get their way. TURN OFF YOUR SPAM FILTER IT IS A PIECE OF TRASH! I don't know if anyone else has had as much trouble as I have but I have already seen a number of posts other than mine bitching about the spam filter. And god knows how many people just give up and not post anything at all. I like reading the articles and comments from this site, but the spam filter has ruined it for me and if it doesn't go soon I'll have to find some other place to get my tech news.

the PC comment makes me wonder if there are any plans to sell this as pc compatible like alot of console controllers these days. I don't really know what I would use it for, but I would buy it just to play around with it.
Mikahilov says they've been able to use the motion controller to control
the PC version of StarCraft.
all they say is able to control the PC version of starcraft, which is very vaguely defined. all it could do might be clicking the base and click produce unit(which can take them however many tries or time). if they can win with Move, then that's another story

Do you know how to read? There are many MANY articles on the entire internet about how the "Move" works, what the balls are for, and how the PS3 uses them in conjunction with the EyeToy.
Or maybe you're just lazy and would rather be spoon fed the information. Kids these days.. yeesh!

You would get your ass handed to on a silver platter if you even attempted to play Starcraft with a controller like that.

Looks like a rip off of the wii controller only more bulbous and studpid looking. Just another example of how Sony isn't innovative at all. I mean 3 versions of the playstation 2 versions of the PSP? Make a different console already, or at least a different controller.

It's not uncommon for consoule makers to have several versions of the same consoule with different internal parts. That's not including radical changes like the PS3 Slim. Doing this helps to reduce cost and allows them to pass the savings on to the customer in most cases.
I'd be surprised if Sony decided to replace the PS3 at this point in the cycle. It's only 4 years old at this point, and hardware wise has not been fully tapped.

So if you drop the Move controller and break the ball on the end, or knock it off completely... will the controller still work ?
Acer Aspire 5610z,Vista HP, No problems with Vista... so far, but I'm learning Linux, just in case.

No, the EyeToy requires the ball for everything to work. If you have no balls, you can't play with your move.
