Let's see - Win 8 finally beats Vista with just over 5%. Lags behind XP (~20%) and 7 (~50%). Heck, it even lags behind MacOS (~7%).

But I keep hearing the same thing - millions of people must be wrong; the people that are correct are the handful of people that use phrases like "it's not that bad," "just get over it," and "install a 3rd party app to fix what ails you"...which is exactly what I heard when Vista was not well received.

I wonder if Vista would still be ahead if we used percentages?
What percent of computers in use at this time of the year 'upgraded' to Vista versus what percent of computers in use at the same time of year 'upgraded' to WIN 8.
Hhhhmmmmmmm................

umm wowser

all this constant hype- even from this site- for this?

well it is expected- WIN8 and WIN8.1 is still a tablet os slammed onto a desktop- and sorry - installing a kludge that is not really optimised for mouse and keyboard is not going to work for enterprise or even for the consumer.

and the consumer will not purchase 400 - 500 dollar touchscreen monitors - and most will not buy the ultrabooks

they have kids, and other bills to pay

so - maybe in another 20 years- not now

What. An. Achievement.

Acutally, not really. Win8 was designed for desktops, laptops, tablets and phone, and Vista wasn't. Which means Win8 should have soared past Vista day one, not limped past some 9 months later.

Face it folks. Microsoft is a rudderless oil tanker. It only gets to where its going by chance, and then it crashes into and takes out half the harbor in the process.

We are wasting our time with Microsoft. Time to bail to Linux, MacOSX, iOS, ChromeOS, Firefox OS, Android, etc. - take your pick.

Out of curiosity I gave Windows 8 a try. I just can't understand all these naysayers. Are they novices? Are they oldtimers set in their ways? I've used every version of Windows. I never had a version that couldn't be learned and/or used.

Realithy is 8 is better than 7 in most metrics. There are some valid issue about the combined Metro/Desktop interface.

It's better but not really worth an upgrade if you have 7 and no touch screen.

I can't understand the propaganda shills promoting Windows 8

Why would you call an Operating System "Windows" if it breaks compatibility with our Windows XP Software?

Why would anyone use an Operating System that was built from the ground up as a Government Sponsored Spyware Platform and little else?

Why would anyone want to be locked down and prevented from doing what they want to do on their own computer?

Because they are novices and shills, that's why!

It finally beat Vista 64 in market share?! Shows just how pathetic Windows 8 is. They've been pushing this OS for a long time now, and it finally caught up to the HAWG of all OS.

Personally, I never had a problem with Vista. Still using it until I get my next CPU. And even then, I'm moving on to W7. Those bums have better learn their lesson in all of this. "The Customer is always right.", wasn't written because it sounded good.

In one paragraph you imply that Vista is crap, and the next you seem to be singing it's praises, bi-polar much?

Whoop-de-shit.

They just needed more break dancers in their commercials.

I find all the windows 8 talk funny. While it's UI atm is really made for tablets, I have never once had any problems with it, and it took me about 15 minutes to figure things out. It loads fast, and once the update is out will have a more pc friendly UI.

I honestly think many of those on the bash 8 bandwagon do so because it is seen as cool to do so on the wonderfully bizarro world of the Internet.

warptek2010

I honestly think that many of you using these tired old arguments to try and justify an OS designed primarily for touch screens do so because you think it's cool to do so. See what I just did there? Turned your argument right around at you.

PS: Took you all of 15 minutes? Well golly willikers, you must be a genius.

avatar

FatOldGuy

And you are a moron. I stated in my post the UI was designed for tablets, but under that UI is a faster windows 7. I'm not saying it is all that, it's not, and XP and Windows 7 were both way bigger improvements over what came before, but the amount of hate that 8 gets is over the top, and only partly deserved, and a small part at that.

avatar

RUSENSITIVESWEETNESS

Sure. That's why sales are pathetic. Because everyone's trying to be cool.

Keep telling yourself that.

Keep being a hipster.

Steve, you've done too many lines. You've lost your grasp on reality.

Good luck with the XBox.

Still using Vista 64, so it's not dead. no reason to upgrade yet. you can talk up Windows 8 all you want but if I can't play my older Steam games getting it would be a waste. if it wasn't for Vista 64 or XP 64 making way we might be using 4 gigs of RAM.

avatar

proweb365

I don't know why you still using Vista. Yarh, just because still have some people like you prefer to use Vista, so It is not die yet. :)..however, in my point of view, Vista is a stupid OS from Microsoft.

I agree. Vista was the Beta for 7 but no way was I going to pay to upgrade to 7 when MS should have given it to us all for Free.

avatar

One reason, loads of stuff like programs, games, and recorded TV that would take at least a month to get back. When I get time and the extra money planning to upgrade with a multi-boot system soon. Windows 8 may very well be faster and the next best thing, but for what I use my system for I really do not have the need for a half baked OS for a desktop at this time. Also, fear of compatability for some of my older games, (like 400) even though I did have some problems with Vista after Microsoft released SP1 & SP2. Everything is working just fine now so, if it ain't broke why fix it!!!

avatar

AFDozerman

Just because you use it doesn't mean it isn't dead.

avatar

Hey.That_Dude

Yeah, it finally passed it... that's the problem. How long did it take Win7 to pass Vista... 6 months? I know it was less than a year.

More like slowly crawls over Vista's corpse while barely clinging to life as is.
