Skype 2.5 for Android Brings Video Chat to 14 Additional Devices
The number of Android smartphones and tablets that now support video calling over Skype grew by more than a dozen with the release of Skype 2.5, the latest version of Skype's mobile software that allows users to make free voice and video Skype-to-Skype calls over 3G or Wi-Fi. Skype now supports video calls on 41 Android devices in all.
Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1, Acer's Iconia, and Motorola's Xoom are among the tablets added to Skype's whitelist for making video calls. Other recently added devices include:
- HTC Nexus One
- HTC Shooter
- Sony Ericsson Xperia Live with Walkman
- Sony Ericsson Xperia neo V
- LG Optimus Black
- LG Optimus 3D
- LG Optimus 2x
- Motorola Photon
- Motorola Bionic
- Motorola Atrix
Skype 2.5 adds other enhancements as well, including the ability to switch between portrait and landscape mode during video calls, and double-tapping to zoom. It also brings improved support for Bluetooth headsets and a bunch of bug fixes and performance improvements, Skype says.

But the question remains: Why not just cut the whitelist and let "all" android devices make calls?

It must have something to do with hardware, processing, and compatibility. That's the only reason I can think of that. This'll be awesome though, because I've received skype calls on my phone in the past from my parents, and they've wanted to do video calls, but couldn't.
