Simple Pleasures: Zotac Rolls Out USB 3.0 to HDMI Adapter
There's nothing fancy to see here, just a nifty adapter to upgrade your HDMI-less notebook or desktop with HDMI output. The USB 3.0 to HDMI Adapter comes from Zotac, a company out of Hong Kong best known for its Zbox line of mini PCs. The idea of converting a USB port into HDMI is simple and convenient, and boy do we love our conveniences.
"Enjoy videos, photos, movies, web content and more on multiple HD displays with the Zotac adapter," said John Cummins, VP of Sales and Marketing for DisplayLink. "With DisplayLink technology, you can expect high performance and crisp visual quality all with the ease of a USB accessory."
Don't worry if your system also lacks a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 port, Zotac says it works with USB 2.0 as well. Just plug it in and connect a digital display for an instant plug-and-play experience, the company says. The adapter supports resolutions up to 1920x1200 with 6-channel digital audio. It works with Windows XP, Vista, and 7 (up to six adapters), and Mac OS (up to four adapters).

edit: O, it says it also works with 2.0, my bad - Title should just say USB - HDMI
Something that has a USB 3.0 port should already have an HDMI port. This is a useless product.

This is FAR from useless, you just dont have a use for it.
Speaking as an owner of a USB 2.0 to DVI adapter, not because my laptop doesn't have DVI, but because I wanted another screen for my work station (I have 3 now) this type of device is very handy. In fact the only draw back of USB 2.0 DVI is that my USB screen can't run Full Screen video at 1920x1080 at 60fps.
However I was blown away by how well even a USB 2.0 screen runs, like youtube videos look just fine, i can work with emails and excel like without even being able to tell its not a normal screen, the throughput differnce isn't even apperant enless i drag a large window around rapidly on the screen itself.
A USB 3.0 screen would almost have none of these drawbacks. It would probably play video at full resolution without an loss in FPS... so this is an AWESOME product.
With something like this anyone could easly hook up MANY MANY screens to a single computer, this could be used lots of things.
awesome it would stand to reason that you could have more working USB 3.0 screens working well, then you could with USB 2.0 without running out of bandwitdh for all the screens.
I plan on getting a few more of these devices to complete my Comand Center remodel at home. Where my computer station will look like something out of startrek. Only not trademark, and nerdy. Well maybe just not trademarky.
