Samsung Splashes Pocket Camera Market with Water Friendly W200
Samsung isn't just boldly going where Cisco's already been before packing up and leaving for good (RIP Flip), but with the release of its new W200, Samsung is taking pocket cameras to places few others would dare follow, like under water. The W200 was designed to capture video in the toughest conditions and sports a shock, water, and dust-proof rugged body.
"The W200 is built to withstand the elements to produce high-quality video in almost any circumstance and thanks to specialized functions, it makes brilliant underwater video easier to achieve than ever," Samsung says. "It is waterproof up to three meters, making it suitable for great video of a relaxed day by the pool or even up-close shots of coral reefs. The W200’s anti-water drop coating also means that the LCD screen will stay free of condensation, even in damp conditions, so you can film without wiping the screen."
The list of features goes on. There's an anti-fog coating that prevents steam from sticking around, and to capture video of your underwater escapades, there's an Aqua Mode setting that's supposed to result in bright and clear underwater video.
Other specs include a 5MP BSI (Back Side Illuminated) CMOS sensor, F2.2 lens, Full HD recording, image stabilization, microSD card slot, USB port, and 1300mAh battery for up 2 hours of video recording.
The W200 will start shipping in May for $159.
