Is Samsung contractually obligated to supply apple? I'm just wondering why they're bothering with them at all. If not, why not just step aside and let apple flounder? As the article said, they can't find another supplier, likely because after the way they've treated Samsung, no one wants to supply them.

Apple has about 100 billion dollars of cash on hand, so I doubt they are worried too much about the price hike. All companies pass any price hikes along to the customer anyway. Maybe this will finally convince them to build their own, or purchase their own chip fabrication company. It would be great if we could get one in the United States somewhere. Apple could still get the last laugh. Imagine how much money and jobs would be lost by Samsung if they no longer made anything for Apple.

It still floors me that they'd sue their own supplier. Why would you intentionally create a bad relationship with a company you desperately need?

I don't hope Apple falls, I hope they burn in a hilarious blaze of epic failure. They will be responsible for their own undoing. You'd figure with all their resource, that would be next to impossible.

If/when they revert from Intel, that will be the final nail. They continue to close themselves into their own tiny box that reads "Warning, angry misguided company... does not play well with others."

Where do I +1 you ?

Well how else is Samsung going to make back the BILLION dollar fine? Some people actually believe that when a company is fined by any entity (including Uncle Sam) that they just bend over and pay. The consumer always ends up paying in the long run. Companies don't pay fines or even taxes... people do.

there is like a 90-95% chance that case will be overturned. too many shady tactics by the judge and jurors. everything from jury members owning crapple stock, people being sued from subsidiaries of samsung so they have a beef with samsung, the highly biased judge, and the jury awarding crapple money from products that didnt even "infringe"

i'm highly satisfied how crapple is slowly dying. i love watching it as it is far more entertaining than quick and painless unlike their previous messiah. wished that would have lasted a few more years

Ah was only a matter of time before Samsung started biting back. Let this be a lesson on how not to screw your suppliers, don't bring in frivolous lawsuits against your primary mobile processor supplier, nasty things tend to happen in the long run.

LOL! I hope Samsung sells the same parts to other companies for less and tells Apple about it. All companies that deal with Apple should do the same. Sue us we raise the price.

Is Microsoft next???

Dear Steve Jobs ...

How does that old saying go about Thermonuclear war and self destruction?

In the case of Steve Jobs I would quote Khan: "From hell's heart - I spit at thee... ".

I think this is a funny turn of events. Apple sues Samsung all the while claiming that everything in their devices is made by Apple.. I guess that lie just got shut down. By now I think they made it pretty clear now that instead of competing professionally they want to sue all of their competitors out of business.

I think the picture of the cat and dog is hilarious and says it all. I laughed until tears rolled.

Apple now has learned the old saying, "Don't bite the hand that feeds you!". I'm happy Samsung is jacking their prices up for Apple's products. If Apple want to sue them, then give it back two fold and make Apple PAY more! Good Job, Samsung!!!

MPC I would really appreciate a lineup of the most recent court cases/rulings. I know that there has been legal battling between apple and samsung in many other countries but I cant find a good summary of all of them anywhere.

take a look at groklaw, that is probably your best bet of the strong of Samsung/Apple cases

Frankly, I love it when other companies stick it to Apple.

With all their whining, you need to call the fricken' Wahmbulance for Apple every time some company make anything remotely close to an Apple product.

If they learned to embrace change instead of crying, I suspect they wouldn't be paying higher prices to Samsung.

SUCK IT, APPLE!

Hey Apple, how about you stop trying to screw the one company you need to survive over in court, and maybe, just MAYBE you wont get screwed in the long run.

avatar

jgottberg

Knowing Apple, they will find a way to spin this so they can justify even higher prices for their products and make Samsung out to be the greedy corporation - *sigh*

oh how the days get sweeter and sweeter. one would think that it is a constant groundhogs-ish valentines day with all these oh so sweet morsels of deliciously sweetened goodies delivered to crapple everyday by good ol samsung. i especially love the quote from one of crapple's lawyers dealing with their $368 million loss a few days ago. it is the quote of the century, never mind that, the quote of the history of man. is it me or is the pot calling the kettle black yet again ? LOLZ

“Apple does not owe money to VirnetX,” Danny Williams, a lawyer with Williams, Morgan & Amerson in Houston who represents Apple, told the jury. “VirnetX is not entitled to money for things they did not invent. The VirnetX technology, if used, is a small part of very large, complex products.”

The images on this article are awesome...well done!

Charlie Demerjian was right again! He talked predicted weeks ago that Samsung would stop selling Apple its screen and processors and Apple would be screwed because they can't get them anywhere else. First Samsung proved Charlie right by recently stopping supplying Apple with screens and now they've jacked up the price of processors for Apple. Apple needs Samsung way more than Samsung needs Apple. Now is the perfect time to short Apple stock.

That's what happens when you bite the hand that feeds you ....hahahahahahahaha.....

Make plans for a new supplier that doesn't have a potential conflict with you (selling similar products).

I am surprised their contract didn't cover price changes.
