Dumb. Just dumb. Don't these companies realize that you can't sell a tablet at the same price point as the iPad, cause if people have that much to spend they're gonna buy the damned iPad!

There is a reason why Dells and HPs don't cost as much as a Mac.

"Maybe Maximum PC should come out a tablet and join every other company on the planet who purportedly is working on a slate PC for a late 2010 launch."

Perhaps you jest.. but that would be awesome!  Slap a logo on the thing, black case, red trim... maybe some flames on the back.  I'd buy one.

honestly this us just plain stupid, they are following the same direction as the iphone by making a big blackberry with touch screen. and dont forget, black berries arent even a quarter as much fun as the iphone, and they dare to make this with no cameras and usb? so what is it for? making phone calls and keeping track of your schedule? and since its black berry i bet they would force you to get a entry data plan, which is even worse than the apple ipad.

if any tablets designers are listening here is what most consumers looking for a tablet wants.

9-10inch screen

2 usb ports, 2.0 is fine but 3.0 would seal the deal

minumum 1 camera in the front for video confrencing and better if there is another on the back

64gig minumum

2gig ram

1.6ghz dual core procesor, or a speedy atom processor

sim card so we can choose our providers, not weak AT&T

running WINDOWS 7

this would make the perfect tablet at they could even charge 600 dollars and it would be worth it, we can download movies or music from anywhere on the go with out being force to stick on with one provider and this would be a great netbook replacement and perfect for students and teachers for taking notes. do it and ill be the first to preorder.

Windows 7 on a little underpowered tablet is gonns overheat and perform like crap.  That's why the iPad isn't running OS X.  Apple knows an OS on an underspecced platform is painful to use, and a lot of tablet makers don't see this.  iOS isn't a fulll featured OS, but it'll run smooth on slow hardware.

Somehow I do not see how adding features and then asking for it to sell for less is going to happen.

Big Screen, OK; 2 USB ports cost money and need to be powered, killing battery life; cams OK; storage: right on; RAM might be excessive, also kills battery; CPU is asking too much for this gen of hardware; unlocked data network? hardly going to happen; Win 7 might not be what you'd expect it to be on this platform. Why win 7? so you can run desktop apps? ANdroid is the better answer for now.

You also overlook the superlative feature of the iPad: stunning battery life. Half of the wants you listed will impact battery life. That is probably why there are no Win 7 tablets, they were ready for production until they saw how zippy the iPad was and how long it lasted on a charge.

they already have a tablet running window 7 with a camera in the front with usb ports. its the archos 9, but i dont like it cause it has too many buttons on the side and feels more like a remote than tablet. i know someone who has one and it runs window 7 fine. great for playing flash games, surfing the web, watching movies and video chat. but im looking for something thats looks like a ipad with these feautures. the battery isnt too shabby either.

ps- the archos 9 is onlly 500 bucks

Yeah, totally agree. The specs are already inferior to the iPad, so they could atleast try to win consumers over by making it only $400 or something. Plus, the iPad has a feature-rich environment such as the iWorks software and the myriad of apps on iTunes, allowing users to get more out of their $500.
