Rumor: ViewSonic Plans to Release a 22-Inch 'Laptop'

comment Commentsprint Printemail EmailDeliciousDiggStumbleUponRedditFacebookSlashdot

If laptops keep getting bigger, we may need a new term for these gigantic portable PCs. Such would be the case if rumors of ViewSonic releasing a 22-inch notebook turn out to be true.

The rumor comes courtesy of news site DigiTimes. Citing those always un-named "industry sources" in Taiwan, DigiTimes says ViewSonic is looking to have a bigger presence in the Chinese market, a goal it literally plans to follow through with by developing a 22-inch laptop to be released in China. The company also plans to push its full product line, from LCDs to netbooks, in China as well.

Earlier this year ViewSonic jumped into the netbook and nettop sectors with the VieBook and ViePC, respectively. The all-in-one ViePC comes with an 18.5-inch display, which means the low-power desktop would be trumped in size by the rumored 22-inch laptop.

No other details are yet available on the upcoming notebook, including price and whether or not ViewSonic also plans to release it in the U.S. market.

avatarWow

Before you know it, we'll be lugging around laptops with 50in HD screens and 20TB hard drives. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of having it be "portable".

avatarHeavy

It must be pretty heavy, it would be funny to see a small chinese man drag this laptop down the street.

avatarI'm looking at a 22inch

I'm looking at a 22inch monitor right now. To image it as laptop is crazy. Add some legs and you've got a Laptable.

avatarI have a 20' viewsonic lcd

I have a 20' viewsonic lcd and it is quite heavy by itself.

BTW, I don`t recommend Viewsonic VG2030wm, it is quite uneven when it comes to color rendering, also, back lighting tears around the edges, I mostly use it for my desktop xbox now as it has DB15 and DVI-D connections, I can plug the box to the vga and my old Athlon XP to the DVI, switching between the two is also a chore.

avatarIf there was a line,

If there was a line, viewsonic just crossed it. I thought 17 inch laptops were too big.

avatarMy keyboard is not larger

My keyboard is not larger than a 19" widescreen, I guess one could think of an extra gaming controller on the left or a full mouse surface on the right.
