Rumor: Original Crysis Losing PC Exclusivity, Headed To Xbox 360
Gamers who choose to play Crysis 2 on the console were rewarded with an achievement for little more than loading the disk into the tray, reaffirming what Crytek has been touting all along, yes it can run Crysis. But did this tongue-in-cheek pat on the back have a hidden significance we missed at the time? Well according to the folks over at CVG, the South Korea Games Rating Board has granted approval for the release of the original Crysis for Xbox 360. If true, it would mark the loss of another former high profile PC exclusive.
It makes sense that Crytek would make an effort to port the original game over to the console now that the franchise is officially multi-platform, but we have to wonder about the timing. Wouldn’t this have made more sense a year ago before the sequel launched? Even if it is true however, the current generation of console hardware will have a hard time doing much better than your average dual core PC with a GeForce 8800.
Does Crytek’s pursuit of the console audience continue to worry you about the future of the franchise? Are the pirates to blame? Let us know what you think.

I would be curious to see exactly how they port this over. CryEngine 3 certainly optimized Crysis 2 to work quite well on consoles while still being a very good looking game. It will never be as good as the PC version of the game, we all know that. I would think Crytek would recreate Crysis via CryEngine 3. I don’t think the Xbox could handle Crysis even at 720p, with just medium/high settings. The low settings just look bad by today’s standards. But it would be interesting to see what corners could be cut without sacrificing too much to make it playable on the Xbox.

The Pirates are not to blame. These guys just got money hungry. Anyways, I do not think it is going to sell well on the consoles since it will be stripped down terribly. The game looks best with the settings cranked up on high. I have just given up hope on Crytech!

It'll be funny when they look at all of the pc screenshots and then get there mindblown by the steaming pile that they see on the tv screen

I don't really see how this is a loss to the PC really. A lot of the consol players had to play a game with almost no backstory because the never played the origonal in the first place.

Didn't they already say that they weren't doing any more exclusive's for pc anymore? I think they kinda already burned the pc platform with the 1st Crysis and it's requirements. I don't really care if it's PC only or not.

Anything that meets the minimum requirements (and sometimes even what doesn't, barring a full incompatibility) can run a game; the question is how well. I just have a hard time imagining how they plan on getting it to run a decent frame rate on that console. Maybe knock it down to DX9 and reduce the draw distance to zero?

I don't think it's pirates, or anything like that, just the ablity to extend the revenue stream on the game.
As for the timing, it's possible they wanted to see the long term console sales numbers of C2 before moving forward. Then of course MS has to say "sure come on down" since everything has to go threw them (I think). Quite likely it wouldn't be a full priced title, might even be a points dowload, but that would be a pretty big download if it was. I wouldn't be surprised if a retail version even combined the expansion for this release.
One of the reasons I don't have a Xbox360 is due to the easy porting bettween it and the PC. The only things stopping the porting of any of the games from one to the other is MS wanting to have an exclusive on a title, or there just not being a preceived audiance for a PC version.
