Rumor: Next iPhone to Pack 5 Megapixel Camera
It’s getting to be the time of the year when iPhone rumors start showing up. Sure enough, DigiTimes is reporting that the next generation of Apple’s successful smartphone will rock a 5 megapixel autofocus camera. The current 3GS model has a 3.2 megapixel sensor. DigiTimes was also responsible for breaking the news of the 3GS camera this time last year.
The hardware will reportedly be supplied by OmniVision, just like the current sensor is. The 5 MP sensor should be the same size as the 3.2 MP version in use, about 1/4 inch, but have better low-light performance. This particular camera hardware is also capable of taking full 1080p video at 30 fps. This is a massive jump over the VGA resolution video in the current iPhone. But remember, just because the hardware is capable, doesn’t mean Apple will enable it in the final product.

I can guarantee youu the exact chip that they are using, I was working with it all summer for a project at school. It is an OVT5633, in using it for the summer I came to realize that it is a REALLY shitty chip.

An updated camera that MIGHT record HD video. WOOOOOO! Time to charge 10x how much it should cost! And you know what, even if it were the smallest of cosmetic changes, that won't stop the Apple freaks from buying it in droves and stating that it's the best thing ever since air and sex!
Apple needs to stop with these pathetic miniscule updates and wait until there's a major thing that requires a release.
Look at the Blackberry Storm 2. There were enough things with the first generation Storm that required version 2. Apple has yet to require 3 seperate versions of the iPhone in the short time it's been out.

Why should anyone care that apple, in 9 or so months, will finally catch up with what many cell phones already have? Granted most phones don't do HD video recording, but as the article says, no saying if apple will even give that to you. Kinda like the option for still shots on the nano, the camera they could have easily put into the touch, the FM radio hardware thats in the touch, that you can't use, and the fact that touch's had bluetooth chips for a looong time and they didn't turn them on until they got around to giving you the option. Oh, and at an additional price no less.
Get an Android.

Android FTW! I just unlocked my HTC Dream (G1). Now I can take it to Bell or Telus. Whoever gives me a better deal. Or to the States if I were to ever move there!
