Rumor: iPhone Headed to Verizon in January (for Realsies)
One rumor that refuses to roll over and play dead is that Apple's iPhone is headed to Verizon. Assuming you're interested in an iPhone in the first place, this sounds like a win-win proposition, if it comes to fruition. Citing "two people familiar with the plans," not only is it going to happen, but relatively soon, as in January 2011, Bloomberg reports.
"Apple is going to dramatically increase the number of devices it sells in the U.S. when exclusivity at AT&T ends," said John Hodulik, an AG Analyst. "It's hard to ignore the quality issues that AT&T faces."
It's also hard to ignore the exclusivity contract between Apple and AT&T, even though all the rumors up to this point seemingly do. Unless Apple and AT&T have come to some sort of altered agreement, the two sides are tied to each other until 2012.
Would you be interested in an iPhone it were offered through Verizon? Sound off in the comments section below.

I'm going to guess, by looking at the timing, that any Verizon iPhone is only going to be available in the LTE (4G) service and I wouldn't think that would affect the quality of the 3G network no matter how many iPhones they dump onto it. With the LTE rollout initially only in 25 cities and devices trickling out for a long while after that, it would seem like they are going for a gradual transition in order to work out any kinks as they ramp up network pressure.

I would rather have the iphone on Sprint, because their unlimited uncapped plan is only $69.99 / mo. while verizon/att's best plan is upwards of $110 / mo.

I just hope all the app clicking, texting Apple kiddies do not screw up what is at present an excellent and reliable service. Right now Verizon is king of the hill on reliability, service and coverage but dump in a few million iphones and I just hope it does not degrade. Those of us that use Verizon have a high standard that we have come to expect.

Assuming that Verizon's pricing structure is better than ATT's, I can definately wait for a couple more months. I'm currently debating about getting the iPhone. ATT's service is really good in Minneapolis, MN; but I'm not ok with the fact that there's no unlimited data plans and tethering.

I have a little over a year left on my contract with AT&T. I hope by then it will open to Verizon, but even then I may not continue to use an iPhone and switch to a Droid. I have never used a Droid phone and wasn't really aware of it when I picked up the iPhone. Overall I'm satisfied with the iPhone, but then again I don't know what I'm missing with the Droid either. AT&T's service though sucks and I get half to 1 full bar where I live. I walk out the door and instantly get full bars. Never had this problem with my old phone through Verizon, nor does my work cell suffer this same problem, which is also through Verizon. It seems everytime Steve Jobs opens his mouth I like Apple less and less. They'd have to do a lot to keep me around.

I don't have a problem with iPhone on Verizon per se. Heck, I'll admit that the iPhone is a good phone.
What I'm afraid of is the influence Apple will have on Verizon if they do get the iPhone. Apple's the #1 tech company in the world right now, and if Apple insists on increased iPhone promotion and marketing, it just might cause Verizon to phase out its other phones, most notably the DROID line. Apple is manipulative like that.
If Big Red does get the iPhone, I really hope the DROID series remains its flagship series. We don't need AT&T and Verizon teaming up. We need competition between the nation's two largest carriers. Competition drives innovation.

Where did you get the information that Apple is the #1 tech company in the world? Just looking at Dell, HP, and Apple for 2009 total Revenue: Dell 52,902,000, Apple 42,905,000, HP 114,552,000. This is according to Forbes.

Oh come on, Apple the #1 tech company? They are a leading consumer electronics toy company true. Give me an Apple with a 6 core processor running HT so 12 virtual cores... you can't??? oh, how about using the TRIM utility for SSD's, Oh, you cant?.... how about... well you get the picture.
#1 tech company, true original tech, not just assembling a bunch or others componnents into a good design, which Apple does a good job of, but true technology development then there are many others ahead of them, Intel. AMD, Nvidia, IBM, on and on and on.

Hmm. I thought it was a headline here somewhere... They talked about it 2 podcasts ago as well.
Here's a NY Times article:
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/27/technology/27apple.htmlMaybe I said it wrong: Apple's the most valuable tech company.

So will the verizon version of the phone have a usuable antenna, or will people have to hold their phones the Steve Jobs way?

I'll probably have the Droid X before this ever happens. I'll definitely look at the iphone if and when released. And yes, I'm sure that this is supposed to read January 2011.

I like consumers to be able to decide what they want so this is fine. I'll be on a Droid, and happier for it. I see this as a natural progresion. You poor AT&T people might finally get a chance to experience your iPhone on a stable network. That or the influx of iPhone users switching vendors and the converts to be that have been steady with Verizon, but waiting for this announcement, will break the Verizon networks back.
This will be interesting to watch as it pans out.
