Rumor: HP Granted One Year Extension to Offer XP Instead of Windows 7
Posted 04/06/09 at 12:36:00 PM by Paul Lilly
Initial reactions to Windows 7 has been, for the most part, pretty positive, enough so that some have admitted to using the beta as their primary OS. The general consensus is that Windows 7 is what Vista should have been all along, but that doesn't mean there won't still be demand for XP when the new OS ships.
Citing a "source within Hewlett Packard," AppleInsider says the OEM has been granted an extension to continue selling Windows XP on its business desktops, workstations, and notebooks instead of Windows 7 for another year. Microsoft appears to have been reluctant to grant the extension, reiterating that the nearly eight-year-old OS is on its last legs.
"It’s important to remind customers that Microsoft are still planning to retire XP Pro Mainstream support on April 14th 2009 and will only provide OS security updates beyond that date unless the customer has an Extended Hotfix Support contract. MS Extended Support for XP Pro ends on April 8th 2014," the source was quoted as saying.
As of right now, HP is the only one being reported to have brokered a deal, but it will interesting to see if other OEMs soon follow suit.

Windows XP will Full format a 8Gb - 180X thumbdrive in 8 seconds!
Windows 7 will boot to desktop on a 105MB/sec Seagate with a 3.2Ghz CPU in 28 seconds!
Windows XP will boot to desktop on a 330 Atom using a 300X Compact Flash Boot Disk in 12 seconds!
Windows 7 requires at least 2.5 Gigabytes for installation!
Windows XP requires about 600 Megabytes for installation
!Windows 7 lets you use any backdoor enabled, NSA approved encryption!
Bad old XP only lets you use any secure encryption you choose!
If you think I'm joking, you deserve Windows 7
Hell, you've earned it

Or do you like penguins? Sorry, you sound like a rabid fanboi for apple or an open-source-geek. I like penguins and a nice delicious crunchy apple once in a while, but I still like the windows in my house.

Windows 7 Security Update!
Submitted by periodhyphenund... on Mon, 04/06/2009 - 1:29pm
Windows 7 and Vista do not provide better security to the end user!
They simply patched all the holes that allowed end users to catch Microsoft actively Violating your security!
Have you noticed that Microsoft Security updates issued after SP2 increase the size of your installed copy of XP from 600 Megabytes to "NOW" over 2 Gigabytes and makes your system much more buggy but does not provide additional security to the end user?
They at Microsoft are "With Malice and Forethought" attempting to make the end users so mad that they simply give up and switch to Vista or Windows 7 just to make your O.S. work as it should.
Switching from XP to Windows 7 will not provide the end user better security. It will only prevent end users from catching Microsoft in the act of violating your security!

Windows 7 is Spyware!

Microsoft could make $BILLIONS$ if they get out of the Spyware Business!
1. Do you think a READ ONLY version of Microsoft XP would be popular?
2. Would you like to have an XP version that could be installed to a Thumbdrive or DVD that would boot ALL of your computers without spying on you or requiring you to activate through Microsoft Spy Servers?
3. Would you like a copy of XP that would NEVER connect to the Internet on its own and would never allow any programs on your computer to connect on their own?
4. Would you Pay as Much for a Copy of XP that doesn't Spy on you as you already paid for a copy that does?
5. Would you like to have a Copy of Microsoft XP that could never possibly reduce it's functionallity, expire, or prevent you from using YOUR Computer the way YOU Want to?
6. Would you even pay EXTRA $$$ for a Secure O.S. from Microsoft?Well Microsoft, What are you waiting for?
An engraved invitation?

Why the frack does APPLEInsider care about what HP or other OEMs do? I mean, they don't shop around to OEMs to offer OSX like MS doeswith Windows. Is apple saying that HP is bound to fail by trying to help ignorant customers with their old faithful?
If I struck a nerve, sorry. I like XP, but it is time to move on.

You Just Can't Beat XP

All windows 7 and vista are shiney bloated variations of XP, and before you start complaining i have them all installed on my system. DirectX 10 is a waste of time on vista because any extra performance you get in games is cancelled out by Vistas hogging of resources and every piece of software you download works on XP, but half of them don't work on vista.
Also a message of advice to microsoft if the customers like the recipe don't change it. Just sell them the same stuff in a different box with a new name. If any other company with a few exceptions released such a unpopular product they would go bust in a few days, but because of microsofts monopoly not even a chimpanzee as CEO could lose microsofts position in the market.

People are dumb!
Submitted by Geeksquadmyss on Mon, 04/06/2009 - 11:48am
What it comes do to is people are dumb! I have a few PC's from my gaming machine to my laptop. I run Vista on all of them including my 6 year old HP pavilion. They all run great and i have no problems that are the fault of the OS, a 6 year old PC is bound to have some problems, most due to hardware.
People have been lead to believe that Vista is unusable and full of problems, it does have its issues and before SP1 it wasnt reliable and was buggy, but that was mostly addressed and is stable. Also look who reported this rumor, Appleinsider! If your not using windows now its because of stupid notions that people have formulated about it, of course XP is more polished than VIsta, XP is on there 3rd SP
Me thinks WinXP will be
Submitted by Trooper_One on Mon, 04/06/2009 - 10:30am
Me thinks WinXP will be around for quite some time, it's like the floppy that just won't die. If you're gaming and high intensity stuff, Vista and future Win7 will be the way to go. But like the other poster said, lower end system, WinXP is great as it is not a resource hog like Vista. Stable too.
Low end PC
Submitted by MeTo on Mon, 04/06/2009 - 10:14am
If you have a lowend PC XP is the way to go thats for sure. If you play games it is time to move to Vista or Win 7 or be left behind. The market will demand it the more OS you support the more it cost to develop. Win xp DX 9 Win Vista DX 10 Win 7 DX 11. Alot of comatabilty issues.
Vista
Submitted by Drakaun on Mon, 04/06/2009 - 12:05pm
Vista will support DX11, thats already official.Which I think was a good idea since they stuck it to us when I was on XP and could only use DX9....so I switched to Vista just for DX10.But,DX10 to me is garbage currently, still to buggy.DX11 will be along soon enough to replace it,Im so glad.
Dont get me wrong I still like having the DX10 option in my games. But In most games it has very little impact, the ones it does have impact visually ....it runs poorly. Its new thats expected.
I still had less video crashes with XP by far.But my main issue is that I have 8800GTX's in SLI.Vista has no love for my cards or SLI :-(.Im hoping moving to GTX 285's will solve that maybe......
If That dont solve it then maybe windows 7 will.....from my understanding Nvdia drivers are to blame not vista?
My brother has GTX260 and Vista and he dont have the same random crashes with certain games I get sometimes. But he dont play as many different games as I do,I play everything under the sun :-)
Note: I built my Brothers PC and mine along with 4 more throughout family....err.My brother and I have both exact same hardware and software exept I have 2 8800GTX's and he has GTX 260.He dont have issues with DX10 games I do with ceratin ones.Maybe something to do with 8800GTX being teh first DX10 card or Just the SLI.Either way Im staying on Vista, cause for most part Im fine..DX9 games are no issue at all.
