Rumor: Borderlands Developer Polishing Off Duke Nukem Forever
Yep, another Duke Nukem Forever story. But this time around, Duke might just cross the finish line he's been inching toward all these years. Why? Because, according to anonymous sources that spoke with Kotaku, everyone's favorite stripper-tipping ass-kicker is finally getting a much-needed change of scenery. So long, 3D Realms. Hello, Gearbox Software.
Gearbox, in case you've been living under a rock specifically designed to ward off only the best games, most recently churned out co-op smash-hit Borderlands. The developer's also responsible for Brothers in Arms, and was – at one point – designing a Duke Nukem spin-off called Duke Nukem Begins.
The craziest part? We could be taking a demo of the game for a test drive as soon as later this year, since Gearbox is picking up where 3D Realms left off development-wise.
When reached for comment, all parties involved refused to confirm or deny anything, although Take-Two acknowledged that it still retains publishing rights to Duke Nukem Forever – even after the dismissal of its oft-publicized lawsuit against 3D Realms.
However, Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford gave a not-so-subtle hint that we'll hear more about Duke's development switcheroo at the Penny Arcade Expo, which takes place at the beginning of September.
Translation: Get excited. Duke's back, and he may very well be better than ever – which, in this case, means “a videogame that human beings can actually play.”

I bought duke nukem a year after it came out.. I was 12. It was a great game. But I gotta say, I gave up on DNF about 5 years after they first broadcasted it. Hyping up a game will only get people going for so long before they start getting pissed and don't believe you anymore. But hey hopefully Gearbox can pull through there 3DRealms has continually FAILED. I won't believe it until I physically see this game on store shelves though. Go Gearbox!!

By the time this game actually hits store shelves most of the players will have been in diapers when Duke Nukem 3D came out.
For all the kids out there let me tell ya that Duke Nukem was a side scrolling game that used to play on a floppy disk. You would load DOS on one floppy, remove the DOS disk after booting the computer and then insert the Duke Nukem disk and launch the executible at the command line.
Duke Nukem 3D was the first game for me that ran ok in DOS 6.22 and Windows 95 but mostly it was designed for DOS.
Duke Nukem Forever is the long awaited sequel to Duke Nukem 3D.
Perhaps sometime in the next 15years we'll be playing Duke Nukem Forever.

Keith, you're right.
I remember playing Duke Nukem 3D when my son was born.
Here's how it used to be.
- It would be late
- He'd wake up for a bottle
- I'd pause the game and heat it up
- I'd prop him up in the baby seat with the bottle right next to my desk and go back to the game
- He'd finish the bottle
- Pause the game again to burp him
- Put him back in the crib
- Go back to playing Duke
MY SON IS GOING TO BE 14 NEXT WEEK! LOL!

Count on it. I've heard so much "Oh Duke Nukem Forever is being developed!" then I hear "Oh, it's down the crapper again." I herd this though out the development cycle, so I am pretty pessimistic about whether this game will come close to being released or what.
