Rumor: Apple to Have an Affair with AMD, Dump Intel
Apple news site AppleInsider claims to have it on good authority that Apple is in advanced discussions with AMD to use the company's chips, a move that would end a four year relationship with Intel.
Citing "people familiar with the matter," AppleInsider says several AMD representatives were spotted on Apple's Commuter Coach buses, as well as making their way in and out of meetings with executives from Apple. Since those meetings took place, Apple has reportedly begun working with AMD chips in its labs for inclusion in some of the company's upcoming products.
There are a couple of reasons why Apple might be considering such a switch. One is that Intel is said to be having trouble keeping up with demand for its new family of Core mobile processors, which has largely been the result of big orders from Acer. And secondly, Intel's new chip designs could hamper Apple's plans to continue its partnership with Nvidia to deliver a standardized chipset for use with Intel CPUs on all of its consumer computer products, AppleInsider says.

By the way, it is EXTREMELY CONVIENIENT when a post is BLOCKED when the word SPM (Add the A) is used.
Is this a way to supress people from complaining about it, MPC?

So freaking Nike ads can make it through the fucking spam filter but actual legitimate posts are screwed. I'm about to freaking leave MaximumPC. I'm sick of my posts being deleted by admins when the freaking Spam filter doesn't block them.
Administrators if your freaking broke ass Spam filter doesn't work then leave our rants about it alone until you remove the freaking spam filter.
You can delete our rants when you remove the spam filter. Until then expect the worst from us.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA
Don't even know why I still bother to go to MPC, not like it's the only tech news site in the world, plenty of alternatives.
Count me GONE as a result of the filter. Shows how much work MPC is putting into identifying problems.
Pz! It was a good 2 1/2 years.

I see some of the comments on how it will help people that buy them because lower priced AMD processor savings will filter down to you. HAHAHAHA do you really think Steve Jobs and Apple are going to do that? They are going to get a lower cost processor probably bump the price up a bit and the extra savings from buying AMD processors will go in their pockets not yours.

I hope AMD charges Apple more to use their processors, because you know if AMD gives them a good deal, Steve Jobs will just want to sell the iPads at a higher price to put more money in his pocket (Like NTLDR said). What a douche. I still can't figure out how you can screw your customers AND keep them coming back?! I mean, you put a fixed battery in your Macbooks, so when it takes a crap, you CAN'T replace it? WOW. Doesn't matter to me though, because I think Apple *sucks* and would only maybe think about getting an iPod.

What a crazy situation. In order to keep up a relation with nVidia they have to have AMD chips, who owns ATI now? What a world we live in! I just got an AMD desktop myself but I can't see AMD chips doing well in a Macbook. The Intel chips are so much faster.

Apple started this rumor so more people would buy their i7 macbooks.
On a serious note, they may be planning on selling more affordable entry level macbooks featuring wallet friendly AMD chips.

An affordable mac... HAHA Good one...
Everyone knows, that the lowest possible mac, is still way too expensive. Well, everyone but the Mactard followers that is..

If this will include no more Intel chips in the Mac Pro Workstation, there could be a problem since most Pro Apps runs better with the Intel Chips.

Wouldnt it make more sense for apple to get both their graphics and processors from the same company since intel wont play nice and allow Nvidia licensing for its i7 lineup?
didnt intel and nvidia go to court over the licensing?
if i were apple i wouldnt want to get caught up in that considering AMD has thuban on the consumer horizon and the radeon 5000 series.
god i hate apple!

Much as I hate and despise Macs, I do know a bit about them. The only mac that uses a desktop CPU is the Mac Pro, EVERY OTHER mac and macbook runs on a laptop CPU. From my memory, AMD's laptop CPU's are crap, and always have been. The brand new Athlon II's still cant keep up with Core 2 Intel procs. Thus, the macs will ALL be slower than the old ones.

And besides, Xeons are more server-oriented. On the other hand, an Opteron Magny-Cours based Mac Pro might sway my opinion...

I'm feeling an increase in price. Why? Steve will say, "Wow, these chips are amazing! They're the best in the world!!! They're 10 times better than the Intel Chips!!! We also had to pay 5 times more for them, but we are only gonna charge you 4.9999 times as much as much as the old iMacs cost. But wait there's more, buy now, and we'll dispose of your PC!" Steve's mind: Yes, yes!!!! I'll steal everything in those computers, lie about what they are, and then put them into my Macs!! This is how geniuses built!!!
My exploding trick: Any iPad/Phone/Mac haters get a lot of silly putty, then clog up the speakers on iPad and iPhone or vents (if they exist) on an iMac and wait for a few minutes... then....
BIG BOOM!!!!

Oh yeah, since AMD chips run hotter than Intel... BIG BOOM HAPPEN MORE WITH LESS PUTTY!! HOORAYZ!

Sadly, Mr. Caboose man, you are wrong. I hate Apple, not AMD. AMD chips just run slightly hotter than Intel processors. It's a fact. But I am still a child, so I hope AMD hasn't touched me!
Oh yeah, but about what Mr. Steve the Messiah Christ says, he just says stuff. It's not that AMD chips are worse, they are quite equal, but Steve says that his product is the best, and since he's using AMD CPUs in my comment, he'd be advertising the hell out of them through the normal methods and the brainwashing one: subliminal messaging!

Sure, Macs would still be underpowered but at least more of the price markup would be attributable to Apple.

Well if the next Mac is gonna have an AMD CPU in it, they better go for something in the lower end. Maybe the first-gen Athlons and Phenoms would do nicely for whatever you can do on a Mac. But if they went with the Athlon II or Phenom II, I'll be pissed.

Wait what? The first gen Phenoms sucked. The Phenom II is way better. Putting the first gen Phenom in a Mac would be a stupid idea. But then again, Apple is stupid, and buying a Mac is a stupid, too.

They'll keep the prices the same. That way, they can milk even MORE cash from you. So yeah Caboose, they'll be cheap.... to make. Then they'll still keep shipping at a premium price.Their profit margin will go from 48% up to 65% :)

As I really don't care for Apple, I would say this would be a huge win for AMD. Also if nVidia breaks down you'd have a ready partner in graphics with fusion.

AMD speaking with Apple does not necessarily mean exit Intel.
They could be talking processors for all sort of mobile units, iGadgets and such or even ATI chips for workstations.
