Rumor: AMD to Release ATI HD 4890 Earlier than Expected

Maybe looking to steal a bit of thunder from Nvidia's upcoming GeForce GTX 275 release, there's a chance AMD will release its ATI HD 4890 on April 2nd, a week ahead of schedule, says VR-Zone. The reviews and news outlet doesn't cite any sources, but did say that both Asus and Gigabyte have already begun selling the HD 4980 in Taiwan and Hong Kong for HK$2,280 (US$297) and HK$1,999 (US$258), respectively.
As previously reported, reference specs for the RV790-based HD 4890 include 1GB of GDDR5 memory running at 3,900MHz and a core clockspeed of 850MHz. No official release date (that we know of) has been given, but if AMD does introduce the new card on April 2nd, it will have beat Nvidia to the punch by a full week if Nvidia sticks to its April 9 release date for its upcoming GeForce GTX 275. A likely scenario if, as VR-Zone claims, "their GTX 275 isn't ready yet and the clocks aren't even finalized."

lol sorry for the bad spelling i had just got back from work and was really tired and i could not help myself, i mean really 8800gt beeting a 4870x2 because of "bad" ATI drivers?

Oh and i have had many ATI cards and never had a driver problem,but with my nvidia cards......

The only issue I've ever had with AMD/ATI and display drivers is in the realm of Linux, but in the past year they've made leaps and bounds when it comes to Linux support. Winderz support however, has always been top notch IMO

ATI drivers are fine. These cards are fine. I have the sapphire Toxic 4870 1GB version (stock oc'd to 780/2000 respectfully) and it puts a whoopin on both my 3870's in crosfire. I must say though, I have never had problems with ATI cards or their drivers in quite a while.
I am glad though these are coming out as it will drop the price of the 4870's. Now I can afford to buy another for some crossfire lovin!! I think I will pass on these cards till the next generation comes out as these are just a minor bump in clock speeds and will be a nary of performance difference.

Eh, great cards but the worst driver support on this planet.
They couldn't code to save their lives.
My 8800GT is on par with my 4870X2 and it's all because of drivers. Extremely poor ATI drivers, extremely good nVidia drivers (lately).

Really well you must not of been used a ATi card in many years coz there drivers are and have been fine for a long time,i have much worse problems with Nvidia drivers crashing under vista.
And saying that your 8800GT is on pair with a 4870x2 just shows what a uneducated idiot you realy are
and you should just not post untill you actuly do some homework.
