I've read some scathing reviews on other sites, that I'm not subscribed to respond to, about Roccat in general and I'm not understanding all the hate. This looks and sounds like a good mouse to me, and I'll probably get it later this year when I upgrade my peripherals. People have been complaining about the 'total unnecessary and stupid' color options. Doesn't anyone remember the Tron edition mouse/keyboard from Razer? They played sounds! lol
I personally think this is really cool as I have a theme computer setup and having my peripherals match has actually been a pretty big concern. For the past decade, it's been downright frustrating to find a blue backlit keyboard I thought was worth the premium they usually charged for it. Blue backlit mice were a little easier, thanks Razer!, but still... I want blue.
The only thing I wish this had, was the Roccat Talk feature the previous mouse of their has so it can work with their keyboard for more macro options. These are extra features to help appeal to niche owners and generic owners alike. $60 for a mouse isn't that bad, assuming it lasts 2-3 years, and a LOT of dedicated or hobbyist gamers/pc modders will LOVE having a high dps mouse that can match whatever color scheme they have at the moment. It can even change with your build so you don't have that one odd piece out. Having an all blue/red build with a different color mouse is annoying for people like me who want a uniform feeling. Hell, I even considered changing the built in LED for the power button on my monitor as it was red.. but then it pooped out and my new LG has a blue power light ^_^
If you didn't get it, my PC theme is currently mostly blue, black steel, and white accent. I think it's sleek.

My limited hands-on experience with Roccat has generally been positive. I haven't played with this particular mouse, but I have tested Roccat's Kone[+] rodent and Isku keyboard, both of which I thought were pretty good (especially the Kone[+]).

I think it was actually your review of those that got me researching them. From what I can tell, Roccat is to Europe, what Razer is to the US. Roccat is well worth a look to me, and a strong competitor for Razer. I'm going to have a hard choice when deciding between this and the Kone, but do plan on getting the Isku keyboard, and maybe even their headset to go Roccat all the way. I'm not terribly picky about headsets, but the mic has to be crisp, and decent bass response in the drivers without getting wubb wubb overpowering. If only Polk made a gaming headset, i'd be sold!

That might be the case, if you peruse Techbargains, which is the outlet I reviewed the Isku and Kone[+] for. Off the top of my head, I'm not sure if Maximum PC has formally evaluated either product or not.

Your comparison to Razer is a good one. Roccat's only recently begun concentrating on the U.S. market, and so far, I like what I'm seeing. Would be interesting to see them take a stab at building a mechanical keyboard.

The Kone was pretty good. Won't tear me away from my G500, but solid nonetheless.
