Report: Nvidia to Offer Upgraded GTX 260 in September
Nvidia contnues to feel the pressure from a suddenly competitive ATI and will once again tweak one of its mainstream videocards. Back in June, Nvidia took its 9800GTX card based on the immensely popular G92 core and shrank the core from 65nm to 55nm, pushed the core, memory, and shader clockspeeds, and dubbed the resulting product the 9800GTX+. This time around its the GTX 260 that will undergo a revision.
Citing an un-named source, Expreview reports Nvidia will add another Texture Processing Cluster (TPC) to its GTX 260, bringing the total up from 8 to 9. By doing so, the revised card will sport 216 shader processors instead of the 192 found in the original GTX 260. As far as Expreview knows, core, shader, and memory clockspeeds will remain the same.
If the report holds true, look for the updated card to arrive in September.

Didn't MaxPC already list in a previous article Nvidia is going to do away with the whole
"x2" card setup? Don't hold your breath waiting for the GTX280x2 or gx2 to come out.

It might. But lets see if you need a small nuclear reactor to run them.

Has that card been confirmed yet? because if it has, then I could get an nForce board instead of the X48 because according to Gordon the 790i is better than the X48.

I dont know if you noticed, but making a url that says it will bookmark maximumpc.com, and then having it just redirect you to another website, without bookmarking, is called phishing. GTFo. BTW, have fun getting scammed. That is all those things are for anyways, to get your money, or other peoples money.

Okay my bad, i didn't know that that was phishing, (to be honest, I didn't have a good idea of what phishing was anyway). I have taken it down and please accept my sincere apologies.

Yeah that would be sweet. Especially with the way nvidia gets its speeds so damn high. Quad SLI with a GTX 280?! Get out the stopwatch and clipboard because that setup would take names.

I have a gtx260 right now, and I was planning on buying another on in the future to run SLI. Are there going to be compatibility issues with the new ones, like when the 8800 gtx's had their issues? If this is true, when is the longest I should wait to purchase another one for sli? I knew they where going to be shrinking the die and some other things when I purchased the card, but I am going to be really upset if they discontinue the older version of the gtx260's. Nvidia is going to burn some bridges if they keep pulling this stuff. I was a die hard ATI fan for a long time, but when they where running behind Nvidia and the price to performance ration was noticable, I switch to two SLI 7600 GS's and was loving it. Please let me know if this is going to happen so I can buy the card in time! Also should I wait to see if the price drops because the new ones will come out, or just forget sli and upgrade everything when I build my new system. Waiting for AMD to come out with a Intel Killer, or until Intel builds in the FSB. Can't wait! Then I can't wait until will get a whole new set up with video cards and CPU crossing paths! The future looks bright, and NVIDIA Take care of you customers!

Well NewEgg.com is good about lowering the price on obsolete hardware. They did for the 8800GTS and should here. Newegg.com is a great source. They were over a hundred dollars cheaper than fry's ellectronics because fry's would'nt lower the price for obsolete hardware. So goto Newegg.
