Report: Kindle Owners Smarter, Richer than iPad Owners
Here's a riddle for you. How is it that Amazon's Kindle, with pricing as low as $140, is owned by people who make more money than owners of Apple's iPad, which starts out at $500? Perhaps because Kindle owners are smarter than their iPad toting brethren, too. Oh snap!
We're not hating on iPad owners, we're just repeating the findings by market research firm Nielsen. According to Nielsen, 45 percent of Kindle owners make over $80,000 per year, compared to 39 percent of iPad owners and 37 percent of iPhone owners.
Going by the numbers, Kindle owners also tend to be more educated, with over a quarter (27 percent) having earned their Master's degrees or doctorates, Nielsen says.
So who's rushing out to buy all these iPads? Younger folk, who perhaps haven't had a chance to earn their higher degrees or make oodles of money. About 63 percent of iPad owners are under the age of 35 versus 47 percent of Kindle owners. And for what it's worth, iPad owners are more receptive to advertising than owners of other digital devices.
More numbers to chew on here.

How about...people who read books (that's what a Kindle is for) are more educated than people who don't? And people who are better educated earn more money? Now wasn't that easy?

I like how anyone bothered to make studies of this. Well not really a study since all of this information is probably easily obtainable anyway. But the fact that someone actually compiled said information and tried to did a cause-and-effect conclusion is laughable at best. Though it wouldn't surprise me of Amazon used this as marketing leverage in their next spin of Kindle ads since Apple likes to do the same thing.
I also had a laugh with the comments down there. I guess the internet never ceases to provide its own entertainment.

I'm 26, have attended a total of 3 college courses, own my own business, and am on track to make six figures this year (made over $14,000 in August and again in September). I don't own an iPad, iPod touch, or any e-book reader. I'm too busy making money to be fooling around with those things!
My father-in-law is 51, makes $50-60K/year, has a doctorate, and owns an iPad, half of which my wife and I paid for for his birthday a few weeks ago. Proves nothing except that he owns an iPad and I don't.

Seriously you bothered to write this...
Fact is despite the pro PC crowd around here. Apple just proved their business model in this article. Nothing about these statistics is relevant except for the fact that Apple consumers are more susceptible to advertising dollars. WIN!!!!
Honestly, who cares what the income demographic of your purchaser is when you are outselling the competing product at a higher price margin. Then to top it off your buyers are more likely to be influenced by your advertising and purchase more of your products. I am far from an Apple fanboy or I would not be reading articles on this site, but, the childish comments above are so ridiculously immature they warranted an intelligent response...
Rebuttals please.

I think you missed the point of my post. If we were having this conversation in person, I'm sure we would come to the conclusion that we agree with one another. Either that or you clicked the "reply" button on the wrong post.

The Kindle is for reading books, magazines and newspapers. Let's not kid ourselves by saying it can be used for web browsing or MP3 playing. So that gives us a demographics that READS. Simple as that. The iPad... well, we've all seen the adds.

My aunt, who was moderately well off, always knew the value of a dollar and made sure her kids did too. One way to get rich is to use the money you do have wisely. For someone who wants only a book reader, the Kindle is a much better buy. Personally, I think iPads are cute and sometimes handy but for me they are too expensive for what they offer. I've tried a couple of business trips and an overseas vacation taking only an iPad instead of a laptop and it's not been optimal. Being unable to check in at airline web sites was one of the problems I encountered. I'm also finding that the iPad locks up a couple of times a day and has problems switching between wi-fi access points. The iPad I use is one supplied by my company; before I buy one with own money it will have to the bugs sorted out, the obviously missing functionality added (camera, USB, etc.) and offer far better value per dollar.

Well DUH... it doesn't take much to be smarter than an iPad user. I have pets that are smarter than most iPad users.

I always thought that Apple vermin were, well, loud-mouthed vermin. I went to college (computer science) with an Apple user and he was a tool. Now I work with a few Apple fans (one even has a Steve Jobs portrait on her desk) and, well, they're not the brightest at their jobs.
They sure are fucking cool, though. rolls eyes

You left out the fact that us Kindle owners are a lot less prone to being as Gay as Apple Ipad users are.

FYI, Keith, using "gay" as an insult is a quick way to get yourself banned from commenting. We don't need that kind of attitude around here.

Actually I wasn't referring to Homosexuals when I said gay. I was referring to the new thing kids say these days.... You've heard the term "that's so Gay!" or "Your so Gay"... If I was going to insult someone with a homosexual slur it would be F A G or more letters added to it. I don't like that word because it's the same as white trash and the N word that I hate.
I actually have a couple homosexual friends and I actually support their rights to be happy. Even though I'm a republican I openly support homosexual marriage. Just read my Twitter rants.. @TheWhisman
I do realize that my sense of humor gets out of hand from time to time, just ask Will Smith about all the emails he sent me.. LOL..
I try not to offend anyone or make any attacks against others. I try to be critical and supportive. I try to give my two cents from more than 29years of personal computer enthusiast experience. I've also have more than 29 years of experience at studying and playing the Game Chess and I'm open to other Chess enthusiasts if there were any Chess Enthusiast websites. Granted I've not even checked to see if there are any chess websites. See how easy it is for me to run off topic like that.

Nice job for defending homosexuals. Deserve rights too, I hate it when people use gay as an insult.

Thus why they own a giant cellphone that can't make phone calls.
