Razer Builds Custom Peripherals for StarCraft II
When StarCraft II releases to a rabid fan base who have helped make the original one of the most popular games of all time, Razer will be ready and waiting with a handful of StarCraft II themed peripherals, including a mouse (Spectre), keyboard (Marauder), and headset (Banshee).
"We are all huge StarCraft players here at Razer, so we are really excited to give gamers a first glimpse at the StarCraft II gaming peripherals," said Robert 'Razerguy' Krakoff, president, Razer USA. "The peripherals were created with our newly developed APM (Actions-Per-Minute) Lighting System™ and feature a gaming-optimized design inspired by the StarCraft universe to complement the on-screen action."
Razer Spectre
Billed as "tournament ready," the Spectre is a lightweight rodent with fingertip grips, five buttons, an ultra-sensitive 5600DPI 3.5G laser sensor, mouse button force settings, multi-color LED system, 1000Hz ultrapolling, 1ms response, and a hardware configuration utility. Probably the most unique feature is the LED system, which provides real-time performance feedback by changing hues.
Availability: Q3 2010
Price: $80
Razer Marauder
Also "tournament ready," the Maruader comes with a multi-color backlit keyboard with an APM (Actions-Per-Minute) lighting system for real-time feedback, just like the Spectre. The Maruader also features "optimized spacing with laser-etched keys," Razer's Hyperesponse technology, 1000Hz ultrapolling, 1ms response, and a hardware configuration utility. In other words, it's the Spectre in keyboard form. Unique to the Maruader, however, is a dedicated on-the-fly macro recording system.
Availabiltiy: Q3 2010
Price: $120
Razer Banshee
If you guessed that Razer would also bill the Banshee headset as "tournament ready," well, you were wrong, but if it's any consolation, so were we. Marketing hype aside, the Banshee does sport a StarCraft inspired design, just like the Spectre and Marauder, and the same multi-color APM as the other two peripherals. The included configuration utility lets user make customized adjustments to the equalizer, pitch, and volume. Other features include a detachable microphone boom and a "comfortable circumaural construction."

The keyboard looks cool, but where are the arrow keys and insert, home, pgup, pgdwn delete and end keys?
I hate it when they mess with the standard configuration of keys. Makes it a pain switching from work to home.

These things look awsome, no doubt about it. I especially like the keyboard. The lighting makes it look like some kind of hovercraft. I'm a little more hyped about SCII than these to be honest. I played SC from WAAAY back in the day and it's one of my all-time favorite RTS's. I'd probably buy at least the keyboard based on brand recognition and bad-ass-factor alone.

How about the price? Just as sweet?
I'll admit it got my attention when it stated it was laser etched. I hate keys that wear off its so annoying. At that price though may as well buy a Deck mechanical keyboard that will last forever.
