Why a banana to show the scale of the device? Why not... a dollar bill?

Because it is equal to about 1 banana, whereas it is equal to more than 50 dollar bills ;)

I finally got my Pi after some 3 months of waiting. I was unprepared though and am now waiting on some additional parts. The Pi doesn't like the SD card I used and I need some HDMI-DVI adapters.

That said, this thing looks like a much better value even for additional cost. The Pi has wires coming out of every face, which makes it quite awkward. This thing has the wires all conveniently coming out one side AND onboard storage.

Yeah, that is EXACTLY my complaint with the Pi. It looks like it is a good buy but by the time you add all of the parts necessary to do something useful with it, you are looking at a price that is the same as a full featured media streamer. As for using it as a microcontroller, there are much better boards out there for that.

So could you add one of those new 'EVGA UV' attached via the HDMI and turn the VIA 720p to 1080?

You could make a really cheap HTPC then.

It already has HDMI out. Why would you stick one of those controllers in between it?

I would like either or? $50 for one and $35 for the other. I would buy both and build HTPC out of both and see what I like better.

Or my second option is, I want to build a 'smoothwall' and since it doest not take much to run it, i think this would be perfect and cheap to play with. Guess I will have to wait longer.

You think that is strictly plug and play? Add another $50-$75 to actually turn it on and THEN you can use it. Don't let the barebones price fool you, it cost a LOT more than the board to have it do anything useful. And THEN you have to load in the software and debug it. No thanks.

I swear I preordered a Raspberry Pi. They took my CC info and address on one of the reputable sites. However I haven't heard a peep, or seen a charge. It is possible that I merely signed up for the wait list. Though not sure why they needed my info. It's been so long I don't clearly remember.
