Publisher Peril on the iPad?
The iPad was hailed as the savior of publishing when it was introduced earlier this year, but if some reports are to be believed, it's not going so well. Time Inc, was set to release a version of their subscription version of its Sports Illustrated iPad app. This model would have consumers paying Time directly for new issues within the app. Apple rejected to app at the last minute. The mood at Time since than is reportedly frantic.
The magazine has resorted to selling single issues, with the standard iTunes app store model. It's not just the revenue that magazines gain from subscriptions, it's the information they get about their direct customers. It's possible Apple blocked this direct sales app because they are worried about the use of this customer data. Alternatively, Apple may just want all the cash flowing through the App Store.
No other magazines have submitted a direct subscription app as of yet, and presumably this situation will keep them on the fence. We may see magazines taking a dimmer view of the iPad in the future. Time even briefly considered pulling out altogether.

hmm... A company that sells a device that will run other programs, that then forces all program developers to deliver all content through them so they can profit. I'm sorry, but apple has all the makings of an evil empire. Hollywood couldn't come up with a better plot. A company that brain washes people into thinking they are the one true champion of the people, while simultaneously bilking every last person out of money at every opportunity. Tightly controlling who can and can not succeed in their world.
Steve Jobs and Apple are the enemy of free open markets. If every company did business like they do we would all be in very big trouble. I just hope the rest of yuppie america wakes up and realizes what they have crawled into bed with.

Lets look at this for a second.
Bill Gates and family have set up a multibillion dollar organization to find out cures for diseases, investing his own money.
Steve Jobs has tantrum as soon as someone wants to use a device the way they want to because they aren't using it like he would.
Apple = The Dark Side

Media outlets were down on their knees giving praise to the all mighty iPad which promised to save their craft and return them to the publishers glory of 1980. They ran back to their villages and rang the hype bell and sang of the glories of the iPad. Now they're starting to find out they were just used, leason learned about remaining objective?
