Psystar Only Sold 768 Hackintosh’s
Psystar had big plans, unfortunately, their plans were pretty much the only thing that fit that description. Now that Apple has effectively won its copyright infringement case against the company, not only is it all but sure to close, but it will likely have to pay a fine for each and every Hackintosh that went out the door.
Just how many machines is that you ask? Turns out even though the company planned to sell as many as 12 million units by 2011, they only managed to pump out around 768 Mac clones so far. Either the Psystar machines were far less popular than the company (and media) let on, or they are fudging the numbers to try and dodge some of the fine. The numbers were revealed as part of a court ordered release to be used against them at upcoming injunction proceedings. Even if Psystar does manage to pay the fine, they will still be a company without a product, not exactly an ideal situation.
It seems as though Apple has done a pretty good job of nipping these guys off in the bud before they had a chance to cost them any customers, but do you actually think the Hackintosh crowd will actually buy genuine Apple OEM goods now that the hammer has come down against Psystar? I also can't help but wonder how many of those 768 machines were sold to the press.

Intelligence is not measured by your stock price. - this was meant as a reply to the comment below.

Maybe apple would have a bigger percent of the worlds OS usage if they didnt monopolize their OS. WTF. How dumb can these people be?

why does apple get away with monopolizing mac os and having all their software on their os? microsoft gets sued for everything all the time: Company makes too much money so they had to split it into hardware and software, they got sued in UK for having IE already on their os... wtf osx has safari browser. BS!!!

I'm sure if Apple actually mattered when it comes to computers, and more than 5% of the world market used Macs, then they'd get looked at. But since Microsoft is everywhere, they'll get all the lawsuits.
Even against morons who try and sue Microsoft due to the RROD on their 360 (and Nintendo for disabling Homebrew, and Sony for banning...)

i am glad they are cut off at the knees, i hope rebel efi and that other dongle thingy go away too. Knowledge is, or ought to be free, and anyone with knowledge and a pc (and a hundred bucks to buy osx) can hack out their own clone. Anyone stupid enough to buy a psystar is probably stupid enough to buy a mac.
They are all computers, maaan, wheels within wheels man.

uhhh.....you have no idea how osx works do you
you need a "dongle thingy" because mac's and OSX dont use a bios, they use EFI....ie the dongle thingy.,.....
thats why all hackintosh's have a EFI card

you can get osx to work just fine without an efi bios too. I had OSX on my dell inspiron 1525 for a while just to see if I liked OSX...which definately doesn't have an efi bios...and guess what, it's EASY.
On an unrelated note...:
Ultimately, I decided I like OSX, but I don't like it enough to use it instead of windows or ubuntu. Software is harder to come by than it is in either windows or ubuntu, and nearly anything worth running on a mac you have to pay a good sum of money for, which I just don't care to spend when I can get nearly the same thing for free with ubuntu or windows almost 90% of the time. I LIKE the os, but I HATE the price that comes with it. I will never own a mac unless that changes (so, never probably).

Very true. There's a much larger percentage of payware in the Mac software world. I think Mac people just expect it.
