Portal 2 to Have Co-op, Launching “This Holiday Season”

After some incredibly clever viral marketing on Valve’s part, GameStop and Game Informer have teamed up to let the cat out of the bag a few days early. Not that we’re complaining, mind you.
In addition to the expected return of GlaDOS (she is “still alive,” after all) and an all new single-player mode packed with “devious test chambers,” Portal 2 promises a completely separate co-op campaign that has even the mighty collective MPC Megabrain crying in a corner just thinking about it.
Also, if GameStop's listing’s anything to go on, Portal 2 will probably be a fair bit beefier content-wise than its predecessor – at least, if it hopes to wear its suggested $49.99 price tag with pride and not shame and regret.
Unfortunately, that’s all that’s trickled out, for now. But hey, look at it this way: Gabe Newell has to pass the time during his GDC award acceptance speech somehow, and while thanking his family and God or whoever is great, it’s so passé. The solution? Portal 2 footage. This, of course, after he approaches the podium, grasps his award, leans in close to the microphone and whispers, “This was a triumph. I’m making a note here: huge success.”

Well I for one love a good co-op game. Especially if there's a 'you or me' moment where someone's gotta die (and let's face it, GLaDOS does love good mind games). Where would I be without online play where there is a co-op element (pretty much every shooter is about a team effort, not a solo one)?
Yeah, my wife and I both are looking forward to this game.

I hate co-op games!
I am the best there is at everything I do or try, so if I have to play with someone else my day will be ruined. I don't want to feel like I'm managing someone while playing a game.
It is lonely at the top!

I am a little skeptical at the $49.99 price tag but if its full fledged then I am down. Portal was one of the funniest games I played since Beneth a Steel Sky.
I bet it is lonely up there

Are you both serious? Did you not read what the man said in this article, or did you just totally see the words "co-op" in the title and then posted? "Portal 2 promises a completely separate co-op
campaign" - Nathan... Key words in there are 'completely' and 'separate'; therefore, not all co-op games are bad because some co-op games have single player aspects/campaigns to them, such as Portal 2.

Are you totally serious? Did you not read what I posted? I said I hate Co-op games, nothing about seperate single player modes. Nor did I say that I would not buy it because it has Co-op mode. I just said I hate Co-op games. And yes, in my world all Co-op games are bad. I don't do online gaming, I don't do multi player, and I don't do Co-op. If Portal 2 has more Co-op than single, or the emphisis is on Co-op, not single, I won't buy. Waste of My money. Getting off the Soapbox now.

The above post was more so directed at Snapple00, rather than you; however, you, too, did not specify about the game. I assumed that the two of you were on a rampant bashing spree, and already throwing Portal 2 down because it had co-op. Next time learn to explain your views further than just say,"I may or may not be the best, but I hate Co-op games as well." The word 'games' can mean an entire game, even if it does have co-op/single player aspects to it, or it could mean single player, co-op, or multi-player. What exactly are you referring to when you say 'games'? A better way to get your point across to readers is to say something more so along the lines like,"I may or may not be the best, but I hate co-op ASPECTS to individual VIDEO GAMES as well." Now, are we done bashing, or have we both gotten what we both meant to say straightened out?

The word 'co-op' made such a big impression for me since I don't like co-op games at all. I like to play online though.
But with co-op, I have to spend all my playing time training even the best gamers to be 1/4th as good as I am, and I rarely play computer games.
I'd rather simply go head to head with someone or a group, they would all lose and I'd go about my day winning at something else.
Hopefully Portal 2 will have a nice challenging (obviously not for me) single player, so I can spend an hour beating it. But I might drink 12 beers, put a blindfold on, cut my hands off, and smash in my monitor so I can simply play normally with others.

Perhaps Holiday Season refers to St. Patricks Day... as adventures are best served with shots.
Or maybe Mothers Day... as the most common phrase that I heard during my sons LAN party, as all 8 teenagers were trying to complete Piortal the fastest was 'Mother !#$@er'
Or perhaps it's the obvious: April Fools Day.
