Popular Dragon Dictation Software Comes to the iPhone, for Free
What happens when an iPhone user runs out of people to talk to? He can now talk to himself. Nuance has released an iPhone version of their popular Dragon NaturallySpeaking software, Dragon Dictation, that will transcribe a voice file into text in a matter of seconds. And, for the time being, the app is free
Mel Martin, at Tuaw, took the app a spin, and found the performance to be impressive. Speech is recorded, sent to a Nuance server for transcription, then returned to the iPhone as a text file. Martin says that over a Wi-Fi network turnaround on his test file was roughly a second, while using 3G it took just under five seconds. He reports there were a “few errors, but they were easy to correct.”
Michael Thompson, the senior vice president and general manager for Nuance Mobile, says right now the app and transcription service is free, but, at some point in the future, Nuance will charge for it.
