Plextor Unveils High Speed M3 Series SSDs with Five Year Warranty
Anyone who's been around PCs for a length of time remembers when Plextor had a reputation for building top-shelf optical drives. For the most part, they were fast performing and reliable, and of course more expensive than your average bargain-bin burner. Plextor still sells optical drives, but like everyone else, the company also dabbles in solid state drives. The company's newest SSD product is the M3 Series with "True Speed" technology and a comparatively lengthy 5-year warranty.
Plextor's M3 Series drives are built around the latest generation Marvell 88SS9174 controller chip and a SATA 6Gbps interface. There are two capacities to choose from:
- 128GB: Up to 510MB/s sequential read, 210MB/s sequential write, 70,000 4KB IOPS random read, 50,000 4KB IOPS random write
- 256GB: Up to 510MB/s sequential read, 360MB/s sequential write, 70,000 4KB IOPS random read, 65,000 4KB IOPS random write
Plextor claims its True Speed technology allows its M3 Series drives to maintain peak performance over extended periods of time. Combined with 24nm toggle NAND flash memory from Toshiba and "thorough factory testing an conditioning," Plextor is confident enough in its drives to back them with a 5-year warranty.
The M3 drives will ship later this month with no decision yet made on price.
