Pioneer Pumps Up the Jam with New Desktop Computer Speaker System
Color us a little bit confused, but isn't the market for multi-media computer speakers dead? That's what we were led to believe when Klipsch quit coming out with new computer speaker sets and Logitech appearing content to sell its Z-5500 system until the end of time. Then all of sudden Logitech came out with a new speaker system, the Z906 (read our review here), and now Pioneer is getting in on the action with its new S-MM301 and S-MM751RU computer speaker systems.
"Our goal with these speakers is to bring that same 'larger-than-life' Pioneer home audio experience onto the desktop. These new computer speakers bring that experience closer for those consumers who love to listen to their music collection from their laptops and home computers," Pioneer said in a statement.
The S-MM301 is a USB-powered 2.0 speaker set intended to "deliver big sound with better fidelity and more volume than typical laptop speakers, all from a compact package that can be transported along with a laptop." The speakers use triple coil drivers and feature metal grills.
For those who like to go bump in the night, the S-MM751RU is a funky looking 2.1 set delivering 10 watts per satellite and 20 watts to the subwoofer. It includes a Control Puck with volume knob and playback controls, and also sports an SD card slot, USB port, and line-in audio input.
Both the S-MM301 ($49) and S-MM751RU ($129) are available now.
