Hey all, just a few responses:

I DID manage to get the smudges out - just not with a dry cloth alone.

Yes, the back of this IS a total mess of cables. We actually had a video camera running in the back as well, but the footage didn't quite turn out. We're shooting more footage as we go so check back for more complete video (including what the mess of cables in the rear looks like and footage of it actually running) as well as the official review!

If you guys are so intent on seeing the back of the monitors here you go:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPaBgCQkFCg&feature=player_embedded

Check out the video suggestions on the side for videos of hims building and testing the monitors.

I went to the samsung web page and lookup up this setup

the monitors are specifically designed for this use and have screw holes on all four corners as well as the usual monitor mount holes, the two center screens are useing standard mounting on a long pole and the four corner screens are attached to the center monitors at just the corners and to each other top to bottom monitor on the outside.

after that there is a mess of wireing each monitor haveing three to four differant connections, we can assume one is power and one is monitor from the PC so there seems to be some kind of snych leads also connecting the monitors

the back is a mess of spagetti ;) so I think they did not show it running becouse that mess probably took hours to configure.

one thing that gets me for this price, there is no neat cable control included the entire mess seems to be held together by some kind of cable ties and yes that means at least six monitor and six power leads to try and hide behind that one little post

ohh, one other thing, I think the monitors are included in that price so 6 monitors and a support just might be about right.

did not like the 8 ms refresh, yea it's got thin bezels but it is not a great screen for gaming otherwise.

I would have liked to have seen some of this from around the back, too--give some idea on the work that was going on.  Kudos, though, for putting it together.  Would have loved to see it up and in action.

ferret141

Tut tut tut. The gentleman should be doing all the lifting while lady should be doing the screwing.

Cannot stand the bazel lines. Just game on a 55 inch 1080P LCD and be done with it!

avatar

aviaggio

The trade off is resolution. Using a consumer-grade LCD TV is going to give you 1920x1080, regardless of size. This setup gives you 5760 x 2160, which is HUGE.

avatar

Keith E. Whisman

My thoughts exactly. Perhaps it's time for MaximumPC do a HiDef TV roundup for use as large gaming monitors to find out which one is the best for the MaximumPC audience. There are some really good HiDef LCD's and Plasma TV's that are selling for $1000 dollars and less.

I'm so anal about smeers on my monitor, I almost shed a tear watching that. lol

I assume like it's been mentioned before it goes back to the manufactuer. If so a good follow up post would be how long and what it took to clean the monitors so Samsung would take it back. I've tried so many so called "cleaners" some were okay, but none ever totally got rid of the streaks.

Also I wonder if they can make bezeless monitors. And if so why didn't Samsung make them for this product? Even if it adds a bit more to the price when your talking north of 3 grand any one ready to buy won't care if it's 3 or 3.5, just how it looks on the desktop.

avatar

aviaggio

Why do you have anal smears on your monitor?

avatar

ferret141

Niiiiiice

avatar

Neufeldt2002

I dang near sprayed my beverage all over my monitor with that. Nice.

avatar

bautrey

How much would a 67 inch tv cost then?

avatar

Torcflaed

well, we got to see several minates of two peaple smearing up six screens, nice... NOT

so why didn't we see the assembly from BEHIND? where all the action was, I wanted to know how it was assembled and all I got out of it was some kind of corner hinges with no idea how the mount itself works

Maximum PC if you read these comments then Do it again and do it right, show us the action not the finger printed screens so messed up she seems to have given up on trying to clean the finger prints

someone said they wanted to see the screen in use, maybe they decided not to after messing them up so bad

what happened to white glove assembly we see in other MaximumPC assemblies?

avatar

BouJhi

cut-scene montage

avatar

Slingblayde

Im not sure why it is so expensive, I guess the quality of the monitors maybe? IPS over TN? Because you can get 24 inch LCD's for under 200 bucks all day long, the mount cant be worth that much, a couple hundred maybe. 6x$200=$1200 + maybe $300 for the mount, this should retail for under $1600, not $3000.

avatar

Fecal Face

Next, get 6 65" 1080p TVs.

THAT would be impressive ;P

avatar

jowens203

why would anyone want to go through all the hassle/price? Just get a 65" plasma and be done with it.

avatar

Brdn666

Because here you'd have a resolution of 5760 x 3240, instead of 1920 x 1080.

avatar

havocwreck

I think the resolution would be 5760x2160 (3 monitors across, 2 monitors high)

avatar

maleficarus™

What are you talking about? if you got a 1080P TV it would be 1080P yes?

avatar

jowens203

Ahh.. that makes sense. Thx for the clarification.. I wasn't thinking about the overall resolution.

avatar

bass00069

67" of gaming goodness!  If only the smudges would come out.

BTW, I like the DNO t-shirt.

avatar

devin3627

like anything would ever be compatible with this... oh wait! 128gb blu-ray movies are on sale at walmart for $9.99! whoopee.... if i can't play the games with a good 45fps easily or watch high res movies, whats the point of this except to be "JP" from grandma's boy...

avatar

aarcane

Dude, I  SO want JPs rig.  if we could all afford setups like that, we'd have a utopian society~

avatar

Keith E. Whisman

Can I have it please?

avatar

sweetjeebus

Dude, go away! Your comments are on every page and so predictable. I look at the comment section for more info. All I get from you are your life stories that I could care less about. You are the equivalent of the, "can it play Crysis?" people.

avatar

Lighthater

Thank you.

Keith E. Whisman

So what are you saying really? Do you mean that you are the comment police? All comments have to be okayed by you before being posted? Nobody can make any comments unless you approve of them first? Just who the fuck do you think you are telling me I can't make comments on the internet? If you don't like my comments just ignore them. Fucking bully! You think your the boss here? Goto hell! I'll post my comments where ever I feel like it. I don't give a shit if you sweetjeebus likes it or not. I don't even know who you are and I don't care. Take your punk ass comments and keep them to yourself.

You can have an enjoyable time on the internet just ignoring my comments, you don't have to read them. This isn't your website anyway. It doesn't say sweetjeebus.com in my address bar.

So sweetjeebus go get a life and leave me alone. If you want to have friendly conversations we can have that. I enjoy friendly conversations over this crap anytime.

avatar

sweetjeebus

So angry! Dude, we can be friends, I guess. My kids use this site, so please don't swear like an animal in your text. That caveman photo is very fitting.

avatar

israel09

And Kieth's Comment's bother you how? Are you forced to read them? no. Do you pay to read articles on this site? no. I mean , why so much anger?. Let the man leave his comments, Thats the point of comment section. You're like the guy that flicks off the log flume, photo so then so no one gets to see it. Or the guy in the back of the class yelling, not wanting anyone else to learn anything.

I rather enjoy Whisman's input on some articles.

avatar

aviaggio

I think using Yakety Sax from Benny Hill would have been much more entertaining :)

And I just can't help myself: "how many Maximum PC editors DOES it take to screw together a few monitors?"

Lastly... dudes (and dudette), do yourself a favor and get a cordless screwdriver!

avatar

praetor_alpha

Isn't a screwdriver, by definition, cordless?

avatar

OliverSudden

Depends upon the brand of vodka.

avatar

Keith E. Whisman

You sir obviously have never been to Ohio.

Otherwise excellent observation.

avatar

MattyMattMatt

Should've shown it in use too!

Pointless really, even numbers of screen suck for gaming. You need a central screen.

avatar

dc10ten

damn alan, what's with all the greasy finger smudges!

didn't even look like amber could get them out (from the video)

avatar

dantejustin

amber and andy, you guys are pretty damn awesome

avatar

Brock Kane

Great, thought you guys were going to show it off? I want to see Black Ops running on that setup! Also want to know what kind of hardware you used to run it. Hurry up!

Also Amber's Hot!

avatar

r6srider

I'd say wear some gloves to avoid the excess of finger prints.  Now, how to get that to a lan party..hmmmm.

avatar

RiderofDark

Just how solid/stable is that base? I noticed a lot of wobbling. It's especially noticable halfway through that video when the top left monitor is getting installed.

avatar

lizzunchbox

It's a little wobbly horizontally, but those screens are bolted together pretty solidly.
