The problem with keyboard and mouse for a conslole is the more the TV... A mouse and text don't work well at all on LCD TVs. Tons of LAG. espesially 60hz TV,s.. The only way to get these to work properly with PS3 or Xbox 360 is to use a PC monitor with HDMI, perferably 22" or Bigger...

believ me I have waned a 32" 1080p (120HZ or 240HZ) Samsung forever for my computer moitor.. just wont work the way a PC monitor will... and i dont have 2000 for the 30" Apple Monitor..

If this thing doesn't lag then it might be a great product, but for $60 US?  not worth it.  Ever heard of the XIM360?  Well I've been using that and it only costed 15 bux to make.  Youtube it.  google it if you haven't heard of this.

I mean, aren't most of the maximumpc community computer science/electronics engineers in the first place? Soldering a XIM is cake.

You can't really say that the cost is only $15 because you need a PC of some sort to connect to.  Remember, this is an accessory for the PS3, not the 360.  The Xbox 360 Input Machine version 1 will work with the PS3, but more then the XIM itself you need a PS2 controller adapter, and a PC to plug it into for everything to work.  The XIM2 will work without a PC, but its not supported for the PS3.  $60 is comparable to whats out there already, so I wouldn't call it over priced, and works if you don't have an extra PC laying around to sit beside your PS3.

Actually, its not that suprising they wouldn't incorperate mouse and keyboard for console games even though they work fine for text input.  Consoles have always been controlled via a controller device as the default.  It costs less to support only one control scheme that never changes, and it makes sure everyone has an equal playing field in all games by forcing the use of a controller... unless the developer specifically keeps the question of balance in mind and codes it in. The biggest reason though is that they gaurentee that when you want a new controller that they're going to make money off of it rather then giving money to whoever your favorite keyboard and mouse makers are.

Hold on, so ps3 won't support a keyboard out of the box? What kind of garbage is that? I know with ps2 and xbox360 both you could plug a usb keyboard right in and it would work fine. Is that not an option on ps3? Now, I have never tried plugging a mouse into my xbox or ps2 but that is probably a different story. But as far as using a keyboard as text input or games that allow keyboard input (final fantasy xi for example) I dont see why this hasn't already been implemented. If its not, this is going to a real problem when final fantasy 14 comes out. Noone wants to type messages out with an on screen keyboard.

Yes, it supports it right out of the box for non-gaming functions just fine and always has.  Its just setting it up for WASD motion and such that you can't use it unless the specific game allows you to set those inputs.

So really, this is a failure on game manufacturers not console manufacturers. I know Square allowed you to use the keyboard for both typing and movement in final fantasy XI. Really, all people need to do is demand that the software manufacturers write in keyboard / mouse support for their games and stop being lazy.

Keyboard and mouse support, sounds good but can't sony add support for it through an update or making its own peripheral. I really don't see the point if console users want to use a keyboard and mouse why not play on PC?

Console-only releases. :(

What other release would there be for an item like this?  It is a mouse and keyboard device for consoles. Key words being mouse and keyboard for consoles.

"What other release would there be for an item like this?  It is a mouse and keyboard device for consoles. Key words being mouse and keyboard for consoles. "

I was referring to exclusive games, not to this new emulator hardware thing.  m1k3_flrs asked:
"I really don't see the point if console users want to use a keyboard and mouse why not play on PC?"

My answer is "console only releases."  They can't play a title on a PC if it's only available on the PS3. (Like Killzone for example.)

Ok your post is more of an answer this time. But one more question, can't sony add support for games through an update? The keyboard and mouse work fine for messaging and browsing the internet.

They could but they choose not to.  See Edahsetin's post above yours.

Hah, after i see it in action by actual consumers, and it works as advertised, I might actually get it.

Well Atleast not until all of us are dead. lol.

Everytime some one brings that up I cringe. Consoles are good for one thing and one thing only, Which is their greatest Triumph and its greatest Sin. They play games. But thats all they do. Yes I know you can to some extent use it to browse the internet , stream movies and play music. But at what cost? I don't mean money...well yes actually I do but I am going to try very hard not to get too deep on that because its more like an after effect than it is a direct one.

Anyways, What is this sin you ask? Dependency, Every single console person out there. You cant fix it yourself. You did'nt learn anything to get there. You will never ever ever EVER have the same freedoms and liberties that a PC  user will have from content to flexability, You couldn't fix your console to save your life. You cant make it look or run any better than the hardware that already exist on your platform of choice can.

PC's can do it better faster and more efficiently. Yes I know as of the last say 4 years it would seem not, but you have to understand Consoles dont even have their own infrastructure. XboxLive and PSN both networks exist on the same platform you Have decreed a failure and a Dying legend. A PC Gamer can effect all of that, If somthing break's he can fix it, he doesn't have to send it away. He wont have to buy a whole new system if somthing break's Just a part. That person had to learn how to do that. What an xbox-360/ps3  teach you ? Nine buttens and two sticks.  And if it doesnt fit that format well then you are SOL .

The reason you see pc as expensive is because you never learned the many values of having a pc( or maybe you did and its just not your thing.....normy) , It cost more because it can do more. Why should I have a machine that plays games well and nothing else, When I can build a machine that can not only play games really well and I can do my taxes on it . watch movie's on it. Basically anything digital it can do.  Now you could go On to say  you just want simple. Well so do sony , microsoft and nintendo.

Afterall why should you need to read if theyll read it for you, and put up a buncha pretty picture's.

If you cant read than you can't see how much theyre taking from you.

Then theres the piracy scapegoat.  I haven't pirated anything since the early napster days, as I was a dumb teenager then. The Value of a dollar and concept of hard work should be rewarded were concepts That elluded me then. But pirating on consoles is just as rampant on pc's but the reason they dont talk about it as much on consoles is really a numbers game. If your loosing 25% of 25 million your going to notice. On hundreds of millions not so  much as your litterally drowning in money. What did this have to do with this particular article? This, There was a time I would have said , "If you make it so that a console will work with any mouse and keybored I choose to use and I will shut the hell up and shelf my pc." This is no longer that time. And that person doesn't exist any more.

The day that happens you can shelf me too because that not a world I want any part of.

This looks like it should definately work really well.  With items like the FragFX or the Fragenstien they work to a certain degree, but they both suffer from trying to do a direct translation of the analog stick to mouse movement, but each suffer from the dead zone issue.  Its absolutely critical to have it in a controller, but detremental to have it in mouse controls.  Unfortunately those alternate controllers use the built in controller software that isn't adjustable and you have to work with it.

This box looks like its more like the XIM hardware though, where they use an external perferal and tweek the input to the PS3 and effectively eliminate the dead zone or make it minimal so the mouse functions like you expect it to.  At least thats what it looks like from the videos considering they don't have any 'jagged' movements that are indicative of the dead zone problem.  I agree that there will need to be a hands on with it to see just how sensitive it is, but it definately looks promising.
