Yes "run it out of town like Windows ME". It will have a limited tablet appeal since the Apple Mini is coming out in September. Expect Windows 9 (PC & Tablet) before XP expires.

Tried the trial version on my PC,I am not impressed. It seemed to me to be one large advertisements for things I don't need.
It will most likely do well on tablets and touch screens for which it is true market.

as a fan of Windows 8, I think this makes sense, especially if we start seeing more touch screen laptops

Honestly, seeing Windows 8 (developer release and consumer release), I would have thought people would be buying up any Windows 7 laptop they could get their hands on before Windows 8 is the new OEM OS. I would think people buying PCs would be in the same boat as me with their opinions on Windows 8. If it is on a non-touch-enabled device (such as a PC...) It's not suited to the platform. Anyone tried using touch based commands (ex: swipe left to move to the next page) with a mouse and keyboard? Way too much mouse movement. I know I will be sitting on my Windows 7 PCs until a viable option to upgrade shows up! anybody else going to sit on Windows 7?

You can make Windows 8 do anything Windows 7 could and much more. The only difference is that now there's a separate interface for touchscreen stuff which can be turned off anyway so there's really no reason to be hating on Windows 8. It's also lighter on the system too.
