Panasonic just put the world on notice that it intends to launch an Android smartphone in the European market in March of next year. The upcoming Android smartphone launch is part of Panasonic's larger plan to increase its overseas smartphone sales to 9 million units in fiscal year 2016, and Europe is the "stepping stone" in reaching the global market, Panasonic said.
The un-named Android device will feature an ultra-slim D-shaped design for easy portability. It will have a 4.3-inch QHD display with an OLED screen, and be both waterproof and dustproof.
"Using this as a reference model, Panasonic will expand its lineup, aiming at sales of 1.5 million smartphones in Europe next fiscal year. Furthermore, in fiscal year 2016, Panasonic targets global sales of 15 million units, including nine million in Europe, Asia, China, and the United States and six million in Japan (of which five million are smartphones)," Panasonic said.
Otherwise, Panasonic was short on details and didn't say what kind of processor it will use, how much storage space and RAM will be included, or what other features will round out the device. The pictures, however, reveal NFC support, a rear-facing camera, and both black and silver models.
