Pa. University Giving All Students iPads, Macbooks
Seton Hill University in Pennsylvania is a small institution of higher learning with a mere 2,100 students. According to an announcement made by the school today, all 2,100 of those students will be getting an iPad. The school’s iPad page says of the move, “This new program provides students with the best in technology and collaborative learning tools.”
The iPad program is part of the Griffin Technology Advantage Program which also provides students with 13-inch Macbook. Students are encouraged to use the devices in class and at home. The school will replace the Macbooks every two years. No word on replacement iPads though. All items provided as part of the Griffin Technology Advantage Program are owned by the students so they can take everything with them after graduation.

Ya sure they all get iPads and Macs. But who is paying for it? The students. It is probably included in the "technology cost" or "living cost" or something like that.
If I went to that school I would sell both of them and stock up on beer.

This program is supposed to make the applicants tech savvier, but most anyone even remotely tech savvy would get the hell out of Seton Hill University as soon as they have an iPad and Macbook foisted on them. The business savvy would pawn those on eBay and get an actual computer instead.

since when was the ipad the best in tech. google wave seems pretty good for collaboration i made a badass lab report with it. i think they could make this work with colab-apps and by putting the books in ebook form. i don't think the ipad is the most cost effective method.

this will have no educational value, they are just doing this to attract students and to make the school seem cool and futuristic.
put all the text books on an ipad or kindle, then i will be impressed

Next, they're gonna make it mandatory that all students install the 'typing a report' screen saver on their macbooks, that way they can 'collaborate' and 'work' non stop on their iPads.
CLICK.

Yeah, Seton Hill is not the same place as Seton Hall. I almost went to Seton Hill in 1999, when it was only co-ed in Music and Theatre. Sometimes I think I really should have gone....me and 2,100 women. Would've been awesome.
