Opera 10 Officially Released
Opera Software finally jumps into the next-gen browser wars today by releasing Opera 10, the company's latest browser, which was first made available in beta form just three months ago.
Out of all the new features -- and there are several -- it's the Opera Turbo compression technology that the browser's developers sound most stoked about. Should you find your internet speed drastically reduced for any reason or get stuck on a sluggish Wi-Fi connection, enabling Opera Turbo mode purports to speed up Web surfing up to eight times faster than other browsers.
"Opera Turbo is our newest innovation, and one we think everyone should try, because we all will face a slow connection at some point," said Jon von Tetzchner, Opera's CEO.
Other notables include a super-sized speed dial, automated updates, an inline spell checker, built in email client, improved tab management, better standards support, and more.

Since internet connections keep getting faster and faster, I definately see where I could possibly be stuck on a slow 3 mb connection and would need my pages rendered incorrectly a little faster than a few milliseconds.

I also had a couple timeouts before I was able to get a successful download, plus one of the US mirrors doesn't actually have the setup file. Just be patient with it if you're trying to upgrade right way.
This article is a little incomplete in my opinion, though... Absolutely no mention of what's missing: Unite. That's a pretty major feature that they couldn't get ready in time for the major release. Unite is currently slated to be included in an incremental release instead.

They must be getting swamped. I've tried several download locations and each one is timing out.

I finally got it but what a bad first impression. The pictures on this website rendered horribly, the text on Drudge Report was really big and in an ugly font, and my local newspaper webside took forever to load and all the pictures were missing. I think I'll stick with FF. Works right out of the box? Hmmm.

Using Opera for ages, no addon hassle and works straight out the box. Lovin' it.
