The phone insurance sounds like a great idea considering that nowadays phones are becoming more and more expensive and because of that, harder to replace. I work for a visitors health insurance company and I know how many advantages an insurance brings. It is very convenient taking into consideration that the amount of money you pay for insurances is so small nowadays.

Maybe I should wait a while before purchasing these insurances. A friend of mine, who works at a car insurance Ireland company told me that the natural tendency of the insurance companies is now to lower their prices. I think the price of the iPhone insurance is still high but I'm sure that there are a lot of people who can afford it.

$13.99 x 24 months + $199 (deductible for 32gb 3gs) = $534.76.  A full price unsubsidized iPhone costs $699.  That's a 76% cost to insure it.  That would be like paying $19000 (over 2 years) to insure a $25k car.  Your monthly payments would be over $700 for your car insurance in this case (depending on your deductible).

MobileProtect and AppleCare still do not cover iPhones that are lost or stolen.  Albiet there is the potential for fraud when this coverage is underwritten, but still no excuse for denying complete coverage for legitimate lost or stolen claims.  Homeowners and renters insurance may cover lost or stolen personal electronic devices but the deductibles for using this kind of insurance would be more than the price of a new iPhone.

you should always buy a protective case for your smart phones sure it may make it look a little bit uncool but the uncool person will be the one laughing when the cool person has to pay for a replacement lol. and plus i dont think the droid has a glass screen like the ipads and iphones.

I've found these insurance policies to be nothing more than a jip.  You are required to pay a monthly fee, and then a deductible on top of that.  It's a phone not a car.  In two years you won't even want it anyway.

I'd rather just be able to buy my handsets directly from the manufacture (HTC, Apple, Nokia, Motorola), and pay the "subsidized" price.  If at that point I wanted an extended warranty that include insurance against damage, then I'd take it.  If not, all would still be right in the world.  From there I can choose the carrier that has the best price and network.

How the cost of a phone is subsidized is beyond me.  If you pay full price on a phone without a contract, your phone bill isn't any cheaper.  So explain to me how companies are subsidizing the cost of the phone?  It usually cost more since they will often wave activation.  Whatever that is.

This is a complete rip off as there are so many cheaper and better alternatives out there. Btw, the official Apply one doesn't cover Florida (unless they changed it).

AT&T is making some desperate changes. I think the September release of Verizon iPhones might be true.

several hundred dollars short...actually why bother?!

with walmart selling the 3GS for $97 (16GB) $297 (32GB) why bother?

Is that just for the phone, or do you have to sign up for a contract too?

Wait, so if I get an iPhone with iPhone insurnace, I would have to pay 50% more than I do now, and $10 more the cheaper model? I have a Droid, it's only $8 a month and I have to pay a $89 deductible. And it has 16GB. And probably does as much as the iPhone does anyway (I don't know, all I know is that it has most of the popular apps the iPhone has already).

Oh and the Droid is around $600 without a contract. Yeesh, what a jip.

Why would anyone buy this when the AppleCare Protection Plan for the iPhone ($70) coverage covers almost anything you can think of for two years? Anytime I've had a problem with my phone, I brought it to the tech at the apple store, who looked up the remedy on his little macbook, and then replaced my phone. (They actually call these guys geniuses???)

I can't imagine why anyone would spend $340 ($14/month * 24 months) just so they could spend another $99 to $199 to replace the phone when they need it. What a ripoff!

$14 p/mo - $10 p/mo = $4 p/mo to the app store?  Has anyone really calculated the cost to own these things vs their actual value to the user?
