Apparently, they're moving a bit more briskly than the article implies; NewEgg lists a 1TB SSD drive from them, available in February:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227502&Tpk=N82E16820227502

It's $3900...but, hey - at least the shipping's free...

With the speed potential I have in mind, I'd put down a good $400 for one of those, and have no regrets.  It wouldn't even have to be that big.  A 50GB drive for just the Windows partition would help immensely.

I have somewhat of a futuristic question. Will RAM ever become obsolete? I realize I'm thinking really far out (10+ years) but will storage technology (Like SSDs) become so fast, that the need for high speed RAM is no longer needed? Obviously this won't happen even with technologies like PCIe 3.0, but I think there will be a day where the transfer speed and random access times of solid state storage (or some other undiscovered storage type) will be fast enough to do the duty of RAM. Or am I wrong? Will the need for volatile memory always exist?

I certainly think that it's a possibility that RAM could become obsolete at some point in the not too distant future. There may be some thing like a small RAM chip soldered into the mobo until the BIOS hands off duties to a SSD. The SSD would need to have a connection to the mobo much faster than SATA though, among some other small changes.

Holy crap! 1200MB/s? My new Vertex Turbo already has my Windows 7 system going from beep to using programs in well under a minute. With that kind of performance, the damned computer will turn itself on and suck the clothes right off your body while serving up your OS! No more hibernating!

Please God, I've been a good boy, really I have. Just give me a single 256g Z drive? You name which (or both) of my children and/or wife and they will be sacrificed in the time and place of your choosing. Thank you!

Can't wait for 10 years from now when ssd's work at the speed of light.  If the price is right, I'll jump in then.

"On the desktop front, the Z-Drive p88 will boast 1300MB/s read and 1200MB/s write speeds."  Dear God! My CPU would turn into a bottleneck
