OCZ, LG Climb the Ultrabook Storage Summit with "Everest"
LG has a need for speed, and it's not the kind that Electronic Arts or Goose or Maverick can satisfy. Instead it's OCZ's subsidiary, Indilinix, that's providing LG with a shot of adrenaline by injecting its Super Ultrabook Z300 with a fast 256GB mSATA solid state drive (SSD) based on Everest. The Z330 will ship with a 256GB SSD that will be anything but a bottleneck.
The Everest controller is the same one found in OCZ's Octane line, and those sport read and write speeds of up to 535MB/s and 270MB/s, respectively. It remains to be seen if the mSATA version in LG's Z330 will offer the same performance, but with Everest running the show, we have to think it will at least be similar.
"We are excited to continue our partnership with LG Electronics and provide our Indilinx Everest based OEM SSDs for integration into the company’s exciting new Super Ultrabook Z300," said Ryan Petersen, CEO of OCZ Technology. "These custom OEM Indilinx SSDs are the ideal solution for the Z300’s ultra slim and stylish form factor, and help deliver a superior overall computing experience for customers with quicker transfer speeds and faster boot up."
OCZ says the custom developed Everest drive in LG's Ultrabook is 25 percent slimmer than traditional 9.5mm 2.5-inch laptop drives.
