OCZ Announces ZS Power Supply Line for Builders on a Modest Budget
Don't have a fortune to plunk down on a power supply? Fair enough, but don't use that as excuse to roll the dice with a generic label promising high watts for pennies on the dollar. Cheaply constructed units do fail, and when it happens, it's not pretty. With that in mind, OCZ's hoping PSU shoppers with modest coin to spend will turn to its new ZS line.
"The new ZS line of power supplies provides customers with the ideal blend of quality, performance, and efficiency for power hungry desktops," said Steve Lee, Senior Vice President of Power Management at OCZ Technology Group. "The ZS power supplies are available in a range of wattages and are engineered for consumers seeking both solid performance and reliability at a very cost-effective price point."
Available in 550W, 650W, and 750W models, all three fixed-cable units are 80 Plus Bronze certified and are capable of powering dual-GPU systems, OCZ says. Cooling duties are handled by a temperature and load-controlled 135mm double ball-bearing fan. All three units sport eight SATA connectors, four 4-pin peripheral connectors, a 20+4 pin ATX connector, and a 4+4-pin ATX12V connector. The 550W and 650W both come with a 6-pin PCI-E and 6+2 pin PCI-E connectors, while the 750W model is equipped with two of each.
OCZ didn't announce any MSRPs, but a quick peek online shows the 550W going for $86 shipped, the 650W for $96 shipped, and the 750W selling for $106 shipped before mail-in-rebate offers.
