Nvidia Tweets Names of First Fermi Cards
Make no mistake, Fermi will be faster than anything Nvidia currently has on the market, and to drive that point home, the GPU maker will go with a higher number scheme to kick off its new architecture. How do we know that? Twitter, of course!
"Fun Fact of the Week: GeForce GTX 480 and GeForce GTX 470 will be the names of the first two GPUs shipped based on our new GF100 chip!," Nvidia tweeted yesterday.
It's just too bad that Twitter doesn't allow more than 140 characters per post, because if it did, maybe Nvidia would have thrown anxious upgraders a bone or two by revealing specs or a launch date. Perhaps a better venue for those sort of details is CeBIT, which kicks off exactly four weeks from today.

More competition for ATI's 5000 series cards will mean lower prices for everyone!

Yo Bro,,
Your going to need more than just a Breaker up grade, Your going to need another power pole installed with 3 phase high tension lines and transformer's to step up the voltage's and amprages wired stright to the machine when you install Quad sli, and install its own super A/C cooling unit, and put that hole rig In a shed by its self in the middle of your yard and dont forget to bolt the rig down to the reinforce concrete floor in a steel frame using 2'' plate steel, you dont want the thing to melt off its mount brackets,, You May want to put a sign out side that say danger High voltage, and advise the hood you live in when your going to turn it on so they could be ready for the power surge and every bodys lights go dimm while the rig spools up, And that just for web browsing, Look out when you try to play a game, every body is going to heve to experance and even longer surge of dimm lights and tripping the machines off with there UPS kicking in just to not damage the rigs,,,,,,,,also get lead line under ware pants to protect those McNuggets, one may want to have kids later in life,,,,

You're confusing surge and drain.
but humourous none the less

I don't need to know the specs, I just want to know about their new "multitasking" capabilities. Like will I be able to toast bread with all the excess heat it'll generate? Grill meats and vegetables? Heat my spare room in the winter time?
Also a concern, will I need to get a new case to house an additional 1000w PSU I'll need to power it? And on a related note, I also need to know if I should consult an electrician to upgrade the wiring in my house so I don't trip a breaker every time I fire up my PC.

I think it would be best to run a dedicated line to your breaker panel from your PC, and use 2 30 amp breakers. THat should give you just enough power to run. But that'll only be for a single card. I'm sure if you had to add in a 2card, you'd need to run some cabling and a breaker designed for an airconditioner.
I just hope you don't have to pay for electricity!

Well this opens up another question: is Nvidia planning on partnering with various electric companies around the country so we can get some kind of rebate or discount on our electric bills if we buy one of these new cards?

i hope Nvidia launches these graphics cards soon, I want to know exactly how fast they are compared to the ATI 5000 series. and how much they cost.

Cost, twice as much.Generate 8x as much heat, use 3x as much electricity, but performance will be compareable!
That is my prediction!

If Nvidia follows their normal schedule, the initial ones will be very spendy. It will take them about six months to release the mid-range and lower end cards.
