my non-stick frying pan on high heat runs cooler than a GTX 480.

I'm not really convinced about liquid boiling off the GPU, when most video cards are installed upside down.

Sapphire has been using vapor cooling for years way to not be inovative Nvidia.

HAHAHAHAHAHA i have a vapor-x ati radeon hd 4890 and it works almost if not exaclty like the above picture. But nonetheless this method does make a cool and quiet card.

"We first started shipping with Vapour Chamber coolers with the ATI Radeon HD 2900 series on products and have continued to develop them on every generation since (with patents pending); we will have further refinements on upcoming GPU’s. With regards to variable fan controllers it is hard to see what is new here – boards with 3 or 4 pin fan headers should have fan control anyway; with the ATI Radeon HD 4000 Series and on we moved from external controllers to fully programmable system on the GPU’s own internal microcontroller; this enable a fine grained, continuously variable control that handles multiple fan curves which change according to the temp ranges you are dealing with." - AMD North America PR

Is last month's GPU release broken or not working correctly? It HAS TO BE if they are releasing another one so quickly. They must have found something wrong with last week's product; and are now fixing the bugs in this iteration.

Seems they have to do this too often, they should spend more time getting the current hardware working first! I remember in the old days their products were so good that it took a year to find any bugs!

Is it possible that they could be thinking ahead and improving designs to further push the bounds of technology?

So you show some in house demos, and a new game based on XP erra graphics and I'm supposed to be impressed? I'll save my judgement until I see some real world benchmarks thanks.

It's Nvidia's new marketing strategy. Right before their competitor releases an actual honest-to-goodness live product they start blathering on about their "new" (vaporware) technology in order to dissuade people from going to the competition. The idea being you might be less inclined to buy a 6900-series AMD card if you knew there was a new Nvidia product just around the corner. Problem is the "corner" is like 6-8 months -- but of course they don't tell you that now.
