Number of Windows 7 Users Surpasses All Mac OSes Combined
Windows 7 has got off to a very impressive start. So impressive, in fact, that its initial showing is many times better than Vista's. It added another feather in its cap when its usage surpassed all versions of Mac OS X combined. According to research firm Net Applications, it achieved this latest feat over the past weekend when its usage eased past the 5 percent mark, and with it Mac's usage share.
Interestingly, Windows 7 usage trailed that of OS X by almost a percentage point earlier in the week. "Certainly, the trend line shows Windows 7 will surpass Mac (market) share soon,” believes Vince Vizzaccaro, executive vice president at Net Applications, according to Computerworld.

I bought a Dell Inspiron 6400 a few years back with XP Pro pre-installed just before Vista was released. A couple of months later when Vista was released I received the upgrade discs from Dell. Always had problems with Outlook ever since!
Anyway, my question is that if I decided to get Windows 7, can I just upgrade (an upgrade on an upgrade?), or do I have to do a clean install?
Thanks,
P.

Like the guy before me, it should work.
If you can though, do a clean install. It'll be a much better experience!

As long as your copy is legal you should be able to upgrade and upgrade without any issues.

Well, well, well.
Thank goodness!
I am upgrading from Vista for only $20 (s&h, or some obscure Microsoft reason).
ADD ME TO THE STATS!!
Vista sucks, but Mac aint that much better.

and it means talks like a n00b, knows like a 1337.
As opposed to a 1amma, who thinks like n00b, talks like 1337; better a 1337-n00b than a 1amma.

Well, does this mean much in the Mac vs. PC world, anyway? No office with, say, 400 desktops to support, is going to find Macs are a cost-effective solution for people running custom software. It's a non-starter. Anything new or new-ish is going to be Win7 OEM, isn't it?
Sure, Win7 has a one-up on Macs, but shouldn't it also be seen as shaming Microsoft's Vista years as well?

I'd normally agree with you...but Vista's userbase was quite a bit larger than Mac's userbase. So I'd say that Microsoft putting out a pretty crappy OS (not so bad nowadays) and still knocking out Mac is pretty shaming.

Well, at the cost to install the required full Win7 on my (perfectly functional, thank you for asking) XP netbook, the likelihood that I will use it runs about par with the chance I'll be installing OSX anytime soon.

Mac's share is less than %10 so it's really not a surprise.
Bait article title is fail, didn't expect it from maxPC ... ;)

To begin with Macs don't even have half the market share as PC does. And even if it did Im sure W7 would still pull ahead. I was also part of the W7 House Party team, and Windows 7 is the best out there as of now.
Until Windows 8 comes along?

MacOS holds just over 5% of the market.

So far the bad press for Windows 7 has been almost nil. It'll be interesting to see what kind of ads Apple puts out now. The latest ones have been "buy a mac instead of upgrading your OS" which are slightly hypricital to begin with...

"ME is great, perfect, best os ever."
"XP is great, perfect, best os ever."
"95 is great, perfect, best os ever."
"3.1 is great, perfect, best os ever."
"2 is great, perfect, best os ever."

I have been running windows 7 since I have gotten it (a few weeks before the official launch thanks House Party!) and have had nothing but sucess with it. I loads much quicker than Xp and def. Vista. I have only had one BSD but that was from hardware problems. I love the different opions there are for arranging the windows. There have been very few updates which is always a plus. I have a dual boot with linux and use W7 more.

Makes me wonder... if all those MAC Commercials didn't actually work against the MAC by helping put the focus right on WIN 7, that if 7 really does live up to it's customer satisfaction goals and sale projections there will be nothing left for Mac to brag about... other than being the most expensive OS you can buy. Is there such a thing as a MAC OEM? To get OS X or Leopard you have to buy... a MAC system! Or run a VM for it on Windows, but who needs that? If OS X is so great why does there need to be an upgrade to Snow Leopard? I agree WIN 7 is for sure a WIN! So far so good....

You can go and purchase the latest Mac OSX.xxxx for $129 for the full thing. Of course it only will install on a Mac. (Unless you hack it, naturally.)
