No "Ultimate Extras" in Windows 7 Ultimate

Microsoft’s Windows Vista Ultimate was supposed to be a fun-filled version packed full of extras, but as anyone with the OS knows, this is a promise that Microsoft didn’t exactly make good on. So, on that note, Microsoft has decided to announce that Windows 7 Ultimate will feature absolutely no extras whatsoever.
“Our new approach to planning and building Windows doesn't have the capacity to continue to deliver features outside the regular release cycle. While our core development team is focused on building the next release, our sustained engineering team is focused on updates to existing features. As a result we don't plan to create Ultimate Extras,” Microsoft stated in a recent bit of Windows 7 SKU news.
Windows 7 Ultimate won’t be available on a retail level, but instead will be offered during promotional periods. It has been speculated that it will be $80 cheaper than Vista’s Ultimate, making it $320.

WIndows 7 had a great BETA review...but MS sucked at giving as a layout on whats to come....
I dont buy the idea its an entirely new OS...its vista on steriods...they have to do a better Job in convincing people...i guess another windfall is coming to this shiny new OS (sort-off)...
this keeps better and better for XP users to keep on using it....

no. xp users will definitely go with 7. MS is clearly trying to target the market they scared off with Vista, and at least in my case they are succeeding. we held back because we didnt like the direction Vista had taken, but with windows 7 they are marketing a cleaner looking OS.
nobody is going to want to have an OS that is 2 generations behind, most xp users will definitely upgrade. windows 7 is pretty much a guaranteed financial success.

Something I was very unhappy about was that when I bought Vista Ultimate Retail, I was hoping that I wouldn't have to replace the OS for another five years or more, with maybe two Service Packs in between. But now, only two years later, I am faced with another upgrade? Oh, and now Vista Ultimate is slowing down to about one or more minutes to boot on my machine if I don't leave it in hybernate? Good greif!! I'm running 4GB of Memory with a Raptor of all things! A Raptor! Used to be 30sec and I got barely anything that loads on startup except for the essentails. I think I got like 48 processes max.
Redmond, give me a trade in value for my old license just to make it up to me. Vista is great with all the new features and all, but now there is a better OS that is faster, according to many. Don't get me wrong. DX10 is great, and the Search bar everywhere with all the other features is really neat. But forcing a power user to upgrae just isn't fair. Yes, you have uncluttered my desktop and turned my PC into my HTPC on a 47". But a pain in the ass is what it will become to backup and replace all my programs.
Is Windows 7 really that much faster? Maybe I'll skip it and wait until the next. What is the scoop guys?

Windows 7 is the best MS Windows yet. And if you don't think so then you really don't like Windows very much and probably don't even use Windows very much. You probably stick to MacOS or some Linux Distro. If this is the case then quit hating on MS. We understand you don't like the OS.

seems like there is a ms troll posting....... i personally found the sarcasm funny
the thought of haveing the oppertunity to pay more for crapware at certain given times.... makes me all warm a fuzzy inside
add the fact that you do not actually get anything for the extra cash just makes it all the better
i want mine now, where's the line

I guess some marketer decided to follow the "Walt Disney method" to ....what make us hungry for Win 7 Ultimate??? On top of this idiocy, from what I've seen from the beta Win 7 has ONLY two good features:
....quick install and almost no trouble with drivers (although I've read that this isn't the case with some OpenGL drivers) and to top this off....Ultimate will only be "let out of the vault" occasionally and for a ridiculous price? And what do I get for $320 an OS that I can't find any setting, and that when I do, I find that it's hoplessly buried under a zillion mouse clicks? Is there some biological virus that has attacked MS employees, rendering them incapable of rational thought?
Dear Microsoft:
If you want to make money...make a lean, mean fast OS with all the settings in the same places they have always been...lose the stupid MEDIA above all else theme, explain in detail and in plain english what each and every service does and cease trying to make the OS call home to MS everytime somone goes online. Then price it reasonablly....and you will sell a trillion copies. If you don't...then Linux and/or React OS is going to put you way out of business ^^
Take efficiency, and edit out all the intelligence and what you have left is a post-XP Microsoft operating system :)

I must be missing something here...
Windows 7 Professional contains all the features of Windows 7 Home Premium plus a few more features.
Windows 7 Enterprise contains all the features of Windows 7 Professional (which contains all the features of Home Premium) plus a few more features, but is only available in volume licenses.
Windows 7 Ultimate contains all the features of of Enterprise (which contains all the features of Professional (which contains all the features of Home Premium)) with no new features or general retail availability, is only available during special promotional periods, and costs more?
This seems to be a redundant question these days when it comes to Windows but... what exactly is the point of Ultimate?
Maybe they should just call it Windows 7 You Won A Promotional Prize Here's Your More Expensive Than Enterprise Edition.

What makes it "Ultimate" is that it has ALL the features. People who bought Vista Ultimate (just) for the extras really werent thinking.
