Nintendo Reveals 3DS Launch Date, Price
Those of you holding your breath for the Nintendo 3DS will have to do so until late February or March (depending on which part of the world you call home). Nintendo has confirmed the launch date of the 3DS and also revealed its price. The handheld will debut first in Japan on February 26, 2011 and then go on to launch in Europe, Australia and the U.S the following month.
The autostereoscopic successor to the Nintendo DS will cost ¥25,000 (US$298), according to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata. He made the announcement at a press event in Japan. The hardware package will include a Nintendo 3DS hardware unit, recharging cradle, AC adapter, 3DS stylus, 2GB SD memory card and 6 AR Cards (used for games with AR technologies). The complete 3DS spec list is available here.

i think the point he was making is that at the price you can buy a wii or for a little more you can have a ps3 or the new 360. at that price you might as well get a iphone/ipod touch for mobile gaming, unless you absolutely need to experience 3D. i think this is going to flop just like other 3D tech being released, once people see it they will say "meh, i don't need to drop 3 bills for that when my old ds works fine."

Nintendo is milking the DS console.. I'd rather just buy a PS3 or Xbox 360 for $300.

So, Nintendo releasing a new DS is milking, yet Sony releasing another PSP isn't?
Besides, the DS is in a different gaming category from the PS3/360/Wii. Those are Television home consoles. The DS (and PSP) are handheld portable consoles.

AR stands for Augmented Reality. Basically, you can look at something with the 3DS camera, and it will digitally add to the live video feed. Similar to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKw_Mp5YkaE.
The cards are likely similar to the markers in that video, and the AR software is probably going to be comprised of interactive games. Basically, it will be a free, totally awesome tech demo, right on the launch unit :D No complaints here!
