Agreed way better than a net book, though saddled with the processor of one. I'd bet on ARM chips with better video, lower heat and increased battery life; keep it under $500 and every wife/kid/student could use one.

Who needs a less capabile tablet with a keyboard? Is there anyone who is really interested or at least anyone who realizes that this is basically just a low power web browser limited to Chrome?

Chrome book totally confuses me. I have Asus Transformer Prime and I am planning on getting a dock because I could really use this tablet for editing document and get some serious work done. At work, I use it to VPN into my Window 2008 Server and publish Digital Signage content from my office to the panel which is like 10-15 minutes away.

I use the tablet for mostly Internet and I just don't get Google strategy on this Netbook/Tablet Chrome/Android. They can make Chrome Beta browser into Chrome OS as a giant app and let the tablet user experiment it. I know flash is dead but I still need the flash for some site like, Mint.

Remember Microsoft Kin and Window Phone 7; they were two different divisions. At least, Ballamer has enough sense to shut it down and merge before it went too far. I hope Google can do the same and incorporate Chrome project into Android.

At $300 for the cheapest, WiFi-only model, it's as expensive as the netbook I bought two years ago, which is still a far more capable device because it sports a full OS and a much larger hard drive.

Who's buying Chromebooks? What niche does it fill to justify its pricing?

the people who have really powerful desktops and do all their work there and really don't do much except browse the web when on the go. You could buy a tablet, or buy a Chromebook depending on whether you just do pure browsing and light gaming, or if you work, but only on the cloud.
