Newsweek Says HP is the "Greenest" Fortune 500 Company

Dell in the past 12 months has been making a concerted effort to reduce its carbon footprint and go green, but according to Newsweek, Hewlett-Packard is the greenest Fortune 500 company around. That's an interesting position to put the OEM in, considering Greenpeace ranked HP No. 14.
So why the disparity? Well, according to Gizmodo, Newsweek takes a holistic view when ranking companies, which includes greenhouse emissions, water consumption, and supply chain management. Greenpeace, on the other hand, is about the benchmarks, such as how much toxic chemicals are being used.
One specific area in which the two rankings disagree is with HP's use of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and brominated flame retardant (BFR). Greenpeace was critical of their use, while Newsweek praised the company for its diminished usage.
As for Dell? The OEM still ranked high in Newsweek's report, taking the No. 2 spot. The rest of the top 5 included, in order, Johnson & Johnson, Intel, and IBM.
Yeah they're green...until....

...they stop at 7-11 or Starbucks for coffee in the morning and leave their car running because it's cold/hot outside.
All this Green...idealism, is not going to solve any problems....this planets ecology is WAY past the point where things like setting your comp to hibernate is going to make one damn bit of difference. The only solution is that the ENTIRE world needs to wake up and smell the pollution. These little half-azz measures are just a pipe dream.
While I DO think every little bit helps....I also realize that all the little bits....aren't going to amount to a hill of beans when combating the general problem...are all the factories in the world; that are making these green devices....not polluting. Hardly. Moving your factory to Taiwann and then boasting in the U.S. that your green is just silly.
We need FUSION, and we need it yesterday...and even that won't save this planets problems...more importantly we need space, as in NASA and new real estate...then if we're half as intelligent as we think we are, we'll take with us the lessons we've learned here.
Is that gonna happen....h3ll no!. We're gonna keep wasting money on crap we don't really need, like sports, SUV's, tailgate parties...etc...and let the world die.....only THEN will we realize how dumb we were.
Take an OS, and edit out all the efficiency, and what you have left is a post-XP Microsoft operating system :)
What? No Apple?
